Our VolunTeens hit the water at Emerson Point Preserve last week, paddling through the mangrove trails with a mission to make a difference!

Along the way, they removed piles of trash from the mangroves, discovered an old ship's logbook and spotted incredible wildlife in its natural habitat. Every piece of litter removed helps protect these vital coastal ecosystems, proving that even a small group can make a big impact.

Looking for a way to keep your teen active, engaged and making a difference this summer? Check out upcoming VolunTeen opportunities and other nature programs at mymanatee.org/ecoevents!

A second chance starts with conservation. đź’š Last Friday at Bayfront Park, The Florida Aquarium Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Team released a juvenile green sea turtle back into the wild after months of rehabilitation.

The turtle arrived on February 11 as a cold-stunned transfer from Mote Marine Laboratory after washing ashore on North Longboat Key. Weighing just 2 pounds, it was lethargic, underweight, covered in barnacles, and required antibiotics and fluids. After months of dedicated care, the turtle nearly doubled in size to 3.9 pounds and is now healthy enough to return home.

All sea turtle rehabilitation work conducted by The Florida Aquarium is done with the approval of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission under conditions not harmful to marine turtles and authorized under conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-26-179.
