History in Motion

David Robinson’s story is about more than basketball. It’s about discipline, humility, service, and character.

Before becoming an NBA legend, Robinson graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Navy. He went on to become a two time NBA Champion, NBA MVP, and two time Olympic Gold Medalist.

His career is a reminder that true strength goes beyond what we accomplish physically. It’s also reflected in how we lead, how we serve, and the character we build along the way.

Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated.

Focus on the basics:

Strength training 2–3 times a week
Cardio throughout the week
Daily movement and mobility

You don’t need a perfect routine. You need one you can stick with.

Keep it simple. Keep moving. Stay consistent. The basics work.

How much exercise do you really need?

The good news: you don’t have to spend hours in the gym to make a difference.

For most adults, the goal is about 150 minutes of moderate activity each week, plus strength training at least 2 days a week. And it doesn’t have to happen all at once. Walking, lifting, cycling, classes and other activities all count.

The key is finding a routine you can maintain. A few consistent workouts each week can support your strength, heart health, mobility and independence as you age.

Fall is the perfect time to reset your routine before the holiday season gets busy.

You don’t need to completely change your schedule. Start with a plan you can actually maintain. A few consistent workouts each week can help you build strength, improve energy, and keep healthy habits in place when the holidays arrive.

Small changes can make a big difference. This September, we’re keeping movement simple. After one meal each day, take a 10-minute walk. Just 10 minutes to move, reset, and build a habit you can continue long after September. How many steps do you normally get in a day?

Not every deadlift has to start from the floor.

Elevating the bar is a simple adjustment that can make the deadlift more accessible while still giving you the benefits of the movement. By reducing the range of motion, we can work on proper technique, build strength through the glutes, hamstrings and back, and adjust the exercise to the individual.

The goal is to find the right variation that allows you to train safely, effectively and with purpose.

Our coaches can help you find the variation that works best for you.

25 YEARS LATER, WE REMEMBER

Twenty five years have passed since September 11, 2001, but across the country, people are still finding meaningful ways to make sure those who were lost are never forgotten.

At the 9/11 Memorial in New York, the names of the 2,977 people killed on September 11 are inscribed around two reflecting pools built in the footprints of the Twin Towers. The Museum beneath the site preserves personal stories, photographs and artifacts so future generations can understand not only what happened that day, but who these people were.

Every September 11, family members gather as the names of the victims are read aloud. Moments of silence mark the events of that morning. After sunset, two beams of light rise above Lower Manhattan in the annual Tribute in Light, representing the towers that once stood there.

Remembrance also happens far beyond New York. Fire departments, gyms, schools and communities across the country participate in memorial stair climbs and workouts. Many climb 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center towers, in honor of the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives. Others run, walk, row or complete workouts built around numbers and events from that day. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation continues that tradition today through memorial climbs across the country.

For some, it is a ceremony. For others, it is visiting the Memorial, saying a name, climbing a flight of stairs, completing a difficult workout, flying a flag or simply taking a moment to remember.

The way we remember may be different, but the purpose remains the same.

September 11, 2001.
25 years later, we remember.

REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN HEROES

Heroism is remembered in moments, but it is built through individual acts of courage.

On September 11, firefighters, police officers, first responders and ordinary people made decisions that put the lives of others before their own. Some climbed stairwells while everyone else was trying to get out. Others returned again and again to help strangers, knowing the danger ahead.

There are countless stories from that day. Coworkers carrying one another down dozens of flights of stairs. Strangers helping strangers. First responders continuing upward. People making one last phone call home simply to say, “I love you.”

The faces in this image remind us that words like heroism, valor and sacrifice belong to real people with families, friends and lives waiting for them.

Today, we remember their courage, their sacrifice and their names.

And here at home, we want to recognize Bowling Green Fire Department and thank the men and women who continue to answer the call every day. We appreciate all you do to protect and serve our community.

Never forgotten.
