Week one was the appetizer. Now the full feast arrives: another loaded college Saturday, and then the NFL kicks its season off right behind it.

Southern Lanes is built for exactly this stretch of the calendar. Saturday belongs to the Toppers, the Cats, the Cards, and every ranked matchup on the wall of screens. Sunday belongs to the pros, the fantasy lineups, and the friend who already thinks his team is finished. Through all of it: cold b**r at the bar, open lanes for bowling between possessions, and a room full of people yelling at the same televisions, which is what fall is actually about.

Strikes on the lanes. Touchdowns on the screens. B**r within reach. Football season doesn't get better than this, and it just went to seven days a week.

Claim the lane. Claim the barstool. Claim the season.

Everyone old enough remembers where they were standing. That's the thing about September 11, 2001: it didn't just happen to New York, or Washington, or a field in Pennsylvania. It happened to every kitchen with a television on, every office that went quiet, every parent who drove to school early just to be near their kids.

Twenty-five years on, we remember what the day took: nearly three thousand lives, each one a whole world of birthdays, arguments, inside jokes, and Sunday dinners. We remember the ones who ran toward the fire, the firefighters climbing stairs they would not come down, the ordinary people on a plane who voted with their lives to fight back. And we remember what the day revealed, which is that when everything broke, Americans reached for each other.

The lines at blood banks stretched around blocks. Strangers held doors and held each other. For a while, we were one thing.

Today we stand with everyone still carrying that morning: the families, the survivors, the first responders whose sacrifice didn't end when the towers fell. May we honor them not just with silence, but with the way we treat each other the other 364 days.

Never forget.

An entire offseason of talking, arguing, and pretending to care about recruiting rankings comes down to this: college football is BACK, and opening Saturday deserves a proper home.

Southern Lanes is that home. Every game on the screens, from the noon kickoffs to the late-night West Coast weirdness, cold b**r at the bar, and open lanes for bowling a few frames between possessions.
