What can I say? I like to be prepared for all situations. And don’t tell me you don’t get this.
Running With Music
Love to run. Love music. Love to run with music. masters runner & music lover with a coffee problem. crazy about my kids, miles, music & mochas.
I don’t love water. There, I said it. Yes, I drink it. But probably not as much as I should. Enter the decaf latte. A decent alternative? Yes or no? Let’s discuss.
So grateful to have friends who support me & push me to be my best. You can see why I love working out with them.

I’m super type-A when it comes to racing. I like to arrive early, do an easy warmup, get some dynamics in, change my shoes, get 5-6 strides in & get to the line with time to relax & settle my nerves a bit. Control the controllables, right? That said, in my non-run world as I’ve gotten older I’ve found myself becoming notably more Type-B. Less rushed, less structured & a lot less worried about the small things. Which is good for me. On Saturday, as I got ready for the Beach to Beacon 10k with my girl Samantha, these 2 worlds collided. And the result was a total s**t show. I’ll explain.
👟
The race went off at 8am. We woke up at 5am to get some coffee & get ready before leaving by 5:45 for the hour drive. Minutes into our trip I realized I’d forgotten not only my water bottle but also my bib. The one thing I needed most & that you can’t really race without. Yes, that. We stopped at Dunkin’ so I could get water & another coffee, which I clearly needed. This delay resulted in us getting stuck in race traffic & not parking until 7:15 pretty far from the start. That warmup & shoe change was a no-go. Not ideal. We threw on our fast shoes & bee-lined it to the start. We asked a staff member if we could get a new bib. They laughed at us. We then asked if we could keep running down the road a little. Nope. The road was closed for the elites. They turned us around & sent us down into a random field. Fine. After a short run we both realized we needed food. We zipped back to the car & I grabbed a PB&J which I stuffed into my mouth as we sprinted over to the start. So, makeshift strides. Or stride. Finally, we were in the corral. I was a hot mess. Not remotely ready & there was nothing I could do about it.
👟
Now, Type-A Trax would have been freaking out. But Type-B Trax? She was just smiling & rolling with it. Did I race well? Nope. But I laughed my face off & had the best time with Samantha despite the chaos. THAT was the win for the day. Different? Yes. Better? Also, yes. It was an unforgettable day with a friend. There will always be more races.
Pre-run breakfast of champions. No bars. What else you got?
He’s back!! After several months off due to a foot injury my dear friend & run partner, Steve McKenna is finally rolling again. As you can see, I’m picking up right where we left off. I’m sure he’s thrilled.

Data vs. Self Awareness

How does one who is not a fan of shorter distances & who has run herself into the ground this week due to travel, s**tty sleep & poor recovery, get hyped up for a 1 mile race. She focuses on the process not the outcome. She embraces the unknown & leans into the simple fact that anything is possible. And then she drink some coffee with a shot of liquid courage on the side! To be continued.
