๐ School's back. Backpacks are packed. And here's your friendly reminder: swim lessons don't have a season.
Water safety skills fade fast when kids take months off โ and the skills they worked SO hard for this summer? Those stick around when lessons continue year-round. Fall swimmers become confident spring swimmers. It's that simple.
Plus, a few things happening at Vista right now:
๐ช Technique & Fitness classes โ Tuesdays at 12:30 PM & Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. Perfect for swimmers ready to refine strokes and build endurance.
๐ Homeschool families, this one's for you! Our morning class times are a perfect fit for PE requirements โ small classes, real skill-building, and a pool that's way less crowded. Ask us about it!
Spots fill quickly once fall routines settle in. Message us or comment below to grab yours! ๐ข๐

Itโs a busy weekend of back-to-school prep! ๐ Weโre filling backpacks at Game Point Athletics and joining our friends Lonestar Collective Dance for uniform pickup. Stop by our tables to grab a box of crayons and water safety info for your little ones! And as you prep for all that Fall has going on, rememberโwater safety doesnโt end with summer. Swimming year-round is how you ensure your child is safe no matter the season, and itโs the best . ๐ข

There have been too many of these stories this summer :(.
Your child is NEVER drown proof. Layers of protection are what keeps little ones safe. Water competency AND a knowledge of how to be safer near water for both children, and adults, is needed to help prevent these tragedies from occurring. I am so heartbroken for this family.
A boy was rushed to a hospital in critical condition after going underwater at a north Bexar County neighborhood pool, according to the sheriffโs office. ๐ Full story at the link in the comments.

Day 3 of camp brought a very special visit from our favorite Search and Rescue team, Alamo Area Search and Rescue !
Members of AASARโincluding our very own Mrs Shilohโspoke with our campers (and a few swim families!) about how their K9s help find missing people. We learned that a dogโs nose is their #1 tool โ and that if you ever get lost, the best thing to do is stay put and โhug a treeโ until help arrives!
The kids even got to watch a live demonstration from K9 Valentine (Wilderness Live Find) and meet K9 Lillith, a 4-month-old puppy in training! ๐ถ
Thank you, AASAR, for taking time out of your day to teach our kiddos what these amazing working dogs can do. Weโre so grateful! โค๏ธ

Day 2 of Red, White & BOOM went beautifully! Thank you SO much to Corporal Hurst and Deputy Acosta with Kendall County Sheriff's Office for coming out and teaching our campers what you do IN and FOR our community! They have loved putting a face to โif you need to call 911โ and the lights and sirens were an added bonus!
Later in the day, as we discussed the importance of water watchers and lifeguards; they were stoked to make the connection that youโre also in charge of enforcing rules and keeping us safe!
I also want to take a moment to send an added note of appreciation for you coming out rather last minute, do to a complete admin error and oversight on my part. We canโt wait to have you out again soon!
Any guesses on who our special camp guests are tomorrow?!

Our hearts are incredibly broken for the family, bystanders & first responders that were affected by the drowning at Boerne Lake over the weekend. We've had many families reach out, asking questions about how this can happen/what may make a lake different than other swimming, and we are available to answer ANY water safety questions you may have. This is a lengthy post, but the information is valuable. Please take a moment to make yourself aware.
As we head into a Holiday weekend, we want to remind you that wearing a proper life vest in open water should be a non-negotiable for your children. It should be as important as wearing a seatbelt in a car or a helmet on your bike. NO ONE is EVER drown proof.
Conditions in open water change quickly and suddenly. Please also note:
IT IS HARDER TO FLOAT IN A LAKE!!!
Ocean= Salt Water keeps you bouyant
Pool= Chlorine + Chemicals keep you bouyant
Fresh Water= HARDEST TO FLOAT IN
Drowning is tragic, silent and preventable. Below are resources and organizations that Vista Swim is a member of, and that allows us to stay up to date and trained in all aspects of water safety. PLEASE take a moment to help equip your friends and family to be safer near water. This is SO MUCH MORE than just swim lessons. It is education, awareness and changes in water safety expectations at the state and local level.

Day 1 of Red, White & BOOM camp is underway! This week we are highlighting the importance of First Responders in our community and are SO thankful to Bergheim Volunteer FD and Kendall County EMS for taking time out of their morning to show the kids their rigs, gear and talk about how they help our community. A portion of camp is spent talking about pool & open water safety! The Stop Drowning Now Safer3 curriculum cards help us visualize water safety in a classroom setting and weโre so excited to have safer kids by the end of the week!
