Congratulations to Texas State’s Ava Kooker, whose team upset No. 6 Baylor and Nyela Calnek in a women’s soccer match Monday in Waco, Texas. Kooker and Calnek are both Team Boca alumni and former teammates.

The 3-1 victory marked the first time in program history that Texas Tech defeated a nationally ranked opponent.

Kooker recorded the game-winning assist on Helen Alormenu’s first of two goals, while Matsuri Tsutsui got the Red Raiders on the board with a goal in the second minute. Texas Tech improved to 3-0, while Baylor fell to 2-1.

“Beating Baylor was a huge statement for us,” Kooker said. “We came into the game confident and fresh off a win over Texas A&M.

“I’m really proud of the way we competed and worked together. It was an incredible team win and one we’ll remember for a long time. Beating Baylor is a big deal, but I think the biggest takeaway is how much belief and passion this team has. This is just the beginning for us.”

Clap it up for the Team Boca ECNL 2012/13 girls on a hard-fought game against the FC Stars ECNL 2012/13 team in their opening game of the ECNL New Jersey at the PDA Complex.

The U14 girls team dropped a 2-0 decision in their first event on the 2026-27 ECNL National Events schedule. They will face the 2020 ECNL National Champion Michigan Hawks on August 22 at 9:50 a.m.

“The game was a very physical, intense high-level game against an outstanding top-level club,” said Team Boca coach David Luna. “The game was decided in the closing minutes of the game, but our effort was outstanding."

Brickell Gromosaik, Adriana Diaz and Emily Sanchez fought hard and raised the level of the match both physically and tactically, according to Luna.

“Overall, today was a phenomenal start of a highly anticipated Team Boca start to the ECNL league and events,” Luna added. “This team stepped up and took it on the chin against one of the top ECNL clubs in the entire country and went toe to toe with them but fell short just minutes before the end of the match.”

Julianna Reese dialed up two goals, including a tally with five minutes left, as the Team Boca ECNL U13/14 team made club history with a 2-1 victory over PDA White ECNL 13/14 at the PDA Complex in Somerset, New Jersey.

Reese scored her first goal to give Team Boca a 1-0 halftime lead. PDA White tied the contest in the second half before Reese sprinted past two defenders and finished to help Team Boca earn its first-ever ECNL victory in the club’s debut game. Goalkeeper Caitlin Astras was stellar in goal with seven saves.

“It was a very well-fought, hard-nosed game that we found a way to win against a very good PDA team,” said Team Boca coach Davod Luna. “Julianna Reese was lights out today in front of the goal with two fantastic goals.

“Mia Taylor stepped out of her comfort zone and was a huge team player, which was a large contributor to today’s win,” Luna continued. “The work this group has put in this preseason was outstanding, and today’s win was a collective effort and result of that hard work.”

Team Boca advances to play the FC Stars White ECNL squad on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in ECNL New Jersey, the first event on the 2026-27 ECNL National Events schedule.

Congratulations go out to former Team Boca defender Nyela Calnek, who played all 90 minutes in Baylor’s 4-1 upset of No. 10 Arkansas on Tuesday night at Razorback Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Nyela, a senior defender who played high school soccer at American Heritage-Delray, previously played at Vanderbilt. She helped lead Team Boca’s 2004 team to the 2022 US Youth Soccer National Championships and was named to the US Youth Soccer Nationals Girls Best XI for her performance.

Despite being picked seventh in the Big 12 Preseason Poll, Baylor handed Arkansas, which was picked second in the SEC Preseason Poll, its worst home loss since 2011.

“Beating Arkansas was a great result for us,” Calnek said. “We trusted the work we’ve put in every day and executed our game plan. A lot of credit goes to our coaching staff for preparing us throughout the week and putting us in a position to succeed. It was an incredible environment to play in, and wins like this reflect the commitment, sacrifice and work everyone in the program puts in every day. This team has high standards, and last night was another important step forward.”

The Florida Atlantic women’s soccer team and FIU played to a 1-1 draw in each team’s season opener Wednesday night at Howard Schnellenberger Field at Flagler Credit Union Stadium. With the tie, the Owls (0-0-1) are now 8-2-2 against the Panthers since 2015.

It was Team Boca Night, and fittingly, former Team Boca standout and FAU freshman forward Maiya Castillo put the Owls ahead in the 75th minute, scoring on a breakaway.

FIU (0-0-1) responded just five minutes later when Yuzu Tanida headed home the equalizer. FAU had a chance to regain the lead in the 86th minute, but FIU goalkeeper Valery Restrepo came up with a big save to preserve the draw.

The announced crowd of 1,017 included Team Boca players, parents, coaches and staff, who came out to support the Owls and celebrate Team Boca Night. In addition to Castillo, FAU features five Team Boca products: junior Ashley Small and freshmen Lola Hathorne, Sophia Foderaro, Sephora Joachim and Castillo.

Halftime entertainment featured players from Team Boca’s U8, U9 and U10 academy teams, who took the field for a game of Red Light, Green Light.

“It was a fantastic crowd,” said FAU coach Patrick Baker following the game. “Thank you to our fans and thank you to Team Boca, all the parents, all the families and players who came to support us tonight. They saw two good teams from South Florida play. Now we have to recover and regroup for a good University of Miami team on Sunday.”
