Loading the back leg on the backhand is essential for junior players. It builds balance, stability, and proper weight transfer, creating a stronger, more efficient stroke as they develop.🎾⚖️

🎾🎾🎾A more compact takeback becomes especially important as the game gets faster and players get older. It gives you more time to react, handle pace, and take the ball on the rise. Players with big takebacks usually rely on exceptional timing but not everyone has that. This drill helps players feel how short and efficient the takeback really needs to be for consistent, high-level tennis.

Step platform drills are a simple but incredibly effective way to improve foot speed, coordination, balance, rhythm, and agility. They challenge players to move quickly while staying light and controlled—qualities that translate directly to better court movement.🎾🏃🏻

15–20 seconds of maximum-intensity work.
3 rounds per exercise.
📌Focus on quick, light feet, staying on the balls of the feet, and maintaining proper technique.
For younger players (8–12 years old), 15 seconds is often ideal. Older juniors and advanced players can work up to 20–25 seconds, but the goal is always quality over fatigue.

10 single-leg hops per leg. Prioritize control over speed.

This is a great drill to improve your landing. As you land, the back leg should naturally kick back to help maintain balance, absorb the force, and keep your body stable for the next movement.🎾🎾🎾

🎾🎾Plus 6 / Minus 6 Tennis Game🎾🎾

Purpose:
This scoring game measures a player’s decision-making, consistency, defensive ability, and ability to create pressure. It rewards forcing mistakes or hitting winners while penalizing unforced errors.

Scoring:
    🎾   +1 point for:
    🎾    Hitting a winner.
🎾    Forcing your opponent into a forced error (an error caused by your shot or pressure).
    🎾    −1 point for:
🎾    Making an unforced error (a mistake on a ball you should reasonably be able to return).

Winning and Losing:
🎾    The first player to reach +6 wins the game.
🎾    If a player reaches −6, they lose the game immediately.

What the Game Measures
🎾    Consistency: Players who avoid unforced errors stay away from the negative side of the score.
🎾   Shot tolerance: The ability to sustain long rallies without making unnecessary mistakes.
🎾    Offensive effectiveness: Players earn points by creating winners or forcing errors through quality shots.
🎾    Defensive quality: Strong defenders can neutralize attacks, avoid unforced errors, and make opponents take extra risks.
🎾    Decision-making: Players learn when to build the point patiently and when to attack, balancing aggression with consistency.

📌Coaching Focus

The goal is not simply to hit winners, but to play high-percentage tennis:
    🎾    Stay consistent.
🎾    Build pressure with quality shots.
🎾    Attack when the opportunity is there.
🎾    Avoid giving away free points through unforced errors.

🎾🎾🎾A good shot starts from the ground up.
Learn to load on your back leg first, then transfer your weight forward as you swing. When your body moves efficiently, you don’t have to force the ball—the power comes naturally.

This is a very good drill especially for a developing tennis player to learn how to create space.🎾🙌🏼

🎾One simple detail that can make a big difference: your front foot.
🎾On lower balls, landing on the heel of your front foot helps keep your weight slightly back, improves balance, and makes it much easier to swing up through the ball for better topspin. For younger players, this is a great habit to build on almost every groundstroke.
🎾At the advanced level, it’s a little different. On higher balls, especially when you’re inside the court, you’ll often shift more onto the toe of the front foot to move your weight forward and attack the ball.

🎾The key is understanding when to use each one.
