Today I found myself alone at the curling club and I took a moment to reflect. As I walked out onto the ice it was pure silence, my body felt the cold of the air, and I saw the glistening of the fresh ice beneath my feet, but I knew all too soon that this space would be filled with the sound of our skips yelling "SWEEP". I then moved into the warm room where it too was quiet, but this soon would also change as it will fill with the sound of laughter and the camaraderie of broomstacking. I am starting my 10th year of being the President of The Kansas City Curling Club and I still get overwhelmed with emotions as I am so proud of this place. But that is just it- it isn't just a place, it is a curling club. A place that we make a home, where we go to see our friends and make new ones, a place where a stranger walks in and instantly is welcomed, a place where people travel from around the world just to spend a few days with us, and a place where people constantly laugh and maybe even cry. This doesn't happen by accident, it takes 1000s of hours from our members volunteering to make sure every aspect of our club runs smoothly. But, it also takes our members just being who they are- kind, welcoming, fun loving people. This isn't just a place, this Is THE KANSAS CITY CURLING CLUB. My cup runneth over with the amount of appreciation I have for getting to be a part of THIS place.
I look forward to seeing you on the ice and "Good Curling"
