Consistency is everything.
Coach's Corner:
To get better at anything and to achieve your objective, you DO NOT need "motivation." You need discipline and consistency. Get used to being uncomfortable and still executing while in that mental space. You don't have to like it. You just have to do it.
Coach's Corner:
Boxing is about repetition, but in that repetition there must be purpose. You must visualize the opponent throwing strikes and combinations, changing angles and levels, and feints. Reacting both defensively and offensively, yet remaining balanced and calm through steady breathing and emotional control. It ain't easy...but it is NECESSARY.
Coach's Corner:
No matter what your reason is for learning boxing, (fitness, self defense, or competition), the training is useless without a firm commitment to practice fundamentals daily. The ex*****on of each move requires micro movements for balance, stability, and power that fires muscles to perform in unison with technique. Good technique will keep you safe and ready. Without it, you'll be the smartest and/or best dressed boxer in the room who cannot fight.
An intelligent fighter knows that winning is NOT the objective when sparring. Nobody cares and neither should you. Sparring is merely an opportunity to learn, to practice, and to review. You must get tagged to work your defense and mental stamina/relaxing under pressure. You must pick your spots and control the tempo. Emotional regulation is key.
Every punch does not have to land, but should fill a lane to both obstruct and psychologically distract your opponent. And shooting those punches from different angles and levels gives the opponent more to think about while making you less predictable.
The Sports and Fitness industries have a load of products to sell to you. Most of them are worthless and they know it. Their objective is to make you a consumer. However, your coach's objective is to make you an intelligent boxer. If you put great products on an inconsistent, undisciplined, and flakey student, the result will still be a poor fighter. However, if you put cheap products on a disciplined, consistent, and coachable student, the result will still be a good fighter. Products won't make you better. Discipline and self control/mastery will.
