Portland Pudgy

Portland Pudgy Check us out at www.pudgy.me ! The Portland Pudgy safety boat is a yacht tender, lifeboat, and recreational sailboat, all in one.

We make a top-quality, dependable and rugged boat that's a stable and roomy yacht tender, a proactive lifeboat, a fun sailboat, and a great sports boat. The stable, unsinkable Pudgy is extremely buoyant and has huge carrying capacity. It's great to row and motor, and it's a fun sailing dinghy. Even without the inflatable exposure canopy, this rugged, unsinkable boat can save your life.

Bring Your Pudgy Home for a Fall Factory Checkup

Own a Portland Pudgy? Bring it by our shop in Biddeford this fall and we’ll give it a little factory attention.

We’ll power wash your Pudgy, inspect it, and take care of minor repairs with no labor charge. You pay only for any parts or materials needed. If we find something requiring (rare) substantial repair work, we’ll discuss it with you and provide an estimate before doing anything.

While you’re here, we can also look over your boat’s hardware and equipment and help with replacement parts or upgrades. And you can check out current Portland Pudgy accessories, motors, fenders, trailers, sailing gear and other equipment in our showroom.

One of the advantages of owning a Portland Pudgy is that it’s a rugged boat built for a long service life. We’d rather help you keep your existing Pudgy going for years than have you think a well-used boat needs to be replaced.

Have an older Pudgy? We’d especially like to see it. We have yet to see a Portland Pudgy put out to pasture, even after 20 years!

Don’t worry about your tender. Worry about your varnish. (And cleaning your workshop.)

Patches, leaks, paint, varnish, fiberglass repairs… tenders have a way of becoming another project.

A Portland Pudgy? Give it a power wash and get out there.

Check out the Small Boats article!

In this month’s Small Boats, Ben Fuller profiles the Echo Bay Dory Skiff, a kit-built sail-and-oar skiff from Chase Small Craft; and Jenny Bennett sails and rows a Portland Pudgy—part family boat, part yacht tender, part lifeboat. Tom Pamperin and a friend row and sail around the uninhabited islands of Lake Huron’s North Channel. Christopher Cunningham builds sliding shelves to fit beneath his workbench and provide both storage and easy access for two bulky power tools. In our gear reviews, Jane Crosen illuminates her campsite with a wire-framed lantern of vintage appearance and modern capabilities, while Greg Rössel reviews some high-quality yet affordable chisels from Europe. And Russell Heath pours his sweat, tears, and heart into a first boatbuilding project that culminates in the launching of his very own Christmas Wherry.
