The best way to connect with your kids? Keep it simple. A game of catch or kicking a soccer ball around isn’t just about the sport—it’s about the relaxed conversations and the bonding that happens along the way. Have a wonderful weekend! ☀️

The "Back-to-School" rush doesn’t have to be a scramble. 🗓️

As coaches, educators, and parents, we often wait until the first week of September to implement new systems—only to watch stress levels spike immediately. The reality? Summer is the perfect "pre-season" to build executive functioning skills and habits before the academic pressure sets in.

We like to think of summer as a low-stakes lab. It’s the best time to "stress-test" your systems, not when the schedule is packed with deadlines and assignments. Whether you are coaching a student-athlete or guiding your own child, here is how to use these next few weeks to set the stage for a smoother fall:

✅ Start Small: Don’t overhaul everything at once. Pick one area—like managing a morning routine or using a digital calendar—and practice it consistently for a few weeks while the pressure is off.

✅ Focus on Consistency, Not Perfection: The goal right now isn't to be a robot; it’s to build the muscle memory of managing demands. If a system needs adjusting in July, you have time to iterate. If it fails in October, you’re just in survival mode.

At The Heller Psychology Group, we believe that helping kids, teens, and adults get organized isn't about rigid willpower—it’s about having the right systems in place.

☀️ Summer Parenting Survival Guide ☀️

Let’s be honest—parenting during the summer hits a little differently. 🌊 Between broken routines, scorching heat, and the inevitable mood swings, keeping the peace can feel like a full-time sport.

If you’re trying to survive the summer months without losing your sanity, focus on these two major game-changers:

1️⃣ Keep the Consistency ⏰
Just because school is out doesn't mean all structure should go out the window. Help your kids thrive by maintaining:

A consistent bedtime 😴

Regular eating routines and planned meals 🍎

A predictable daily rhythm (especially during those open weeks at home!)

2️⃣ Prioritize Physical Activity 🏃‍♂️
If you have a student-athlete, the sudden drop in organized sports during the summer can take a toll—both physically and emotionally.

The Fix: Help them map out their own summer workout plan.

Even if they aren't in competitive sports, getting regular daily movement is crucial for burning off extra energy and keeping moods balanced.

How can we build youth sports leagues where every athlete has the chance to thrive? 🧠⚽️
This November, I’m heading to Orlando to present at the NAYS Annual Youth Sports Congress! My talk, “Building a Better League: Strategies for Supporting Youth Athletes with ADHD,” is all about giving coaches and league leaders practical, actionable tools to support neurodivergent kids on the field.

As both a psychologist and a youth coach, I know firsthand how much of a difference the right approach can make. I’m looking forward to connecting with fellow leaders in youth sports and sharing ways we can make our leagues more inclusive.

A summer reminder for the parent who is feeling overwhelmed... ☀️👇

With many sports and busy schedules on pause or different for the summer, you’d think things would feel easier. But let’s be honest: this slower season (for some of you) can bring a whole new set of highs and lows. Parenting is tough, and it takes a massive amount of work.

When you’re in the middle of a challenging, unstructured time period, it’s easy to feel discouraged. But remembering the positives and knowing that this difficult phase will pass and nomal routines will return by September can help you get through it.

More importantly, if you are feeling completely burnt out, don't be afraid to seek help. Finding the right support system isn't just about helping your child thrive; it’s about giving you the space to thrive as a parent, too.

Take a deep breath. Maybe three. In...out....in....out...in...out...You don't have to navigate the tough days alone. 🤍

Summer is great for taking a breather, but total chaos? Not so much. 😅

If you’re a few weeks into summer and realizing the lack of routine is catching up to you and your kids, you aren't alone. It’s not too late to iron out a plan.

Focus on the basics:
✔️ Consistent bedtimes
✔️ Keeping up with physical activity
✔️ Managing screen time

Have that conversation today and finish the summer strong! 📈

The secret to sports success happens OFF the field. ☀️🏆
Summer is the ultimate playground for growth, but without structure, it’s easy for sports schedules to completely take over your time (and your sanity!).

If your athlete is struggling with self-motivation or consistency, the fix isn’t always “try harder.” Often, it’s about the systems they have in place. Solid morning routines, consistent evening routines, and prioritizing sleep are what allow a busy sports schedule to actually work.
When you help them build routines, you aren’t just helping them with sports—you’re setting them up for life in general.
Let’s make this summer the turning point.
