Ride Hard FInish Thirsty!

Photos from Boneyard Cycling's post 08/15/2026

As the smoke rolls in (and out…and in…), we fondly recall last month’s team trip to the McKenzie River, where the air was clear, the trees were green, and the lava rock was…lava rocky. The team camped at the Horse Creek Lodge, and rode the McKenzie River Trail on one day and shuttled King Castle the next, riding hard and finishing thirsty as always.

Do you ever think, “Wow, sometimes I feel pretty gassed after riding my MTB 20 miles in the dusty heat—I think I’ll ride, say…five times as much and do like, nine thousand feet of climbing while I’m at it!?” Boneheads Brad (not pictured 🙁), Scott, Ron, and Justin raced the High Cascades 100 last weekend and we are so proud of our teammates for completing this epic race on a tough course. We also had a solid crew of volunteers—a highly recommended experience for those who want race vibes without, ya know, racing (remember, you don’t have to race to be a part of the team). Thanks to Mudslinger Events for putting on this event—it’s no small feat and we truly appreciate all the work that goes into it. Everyone, you rock!

Bend Dirt Fest: Much dirt! Very festive! Congrats to Cody for being #1 MTB Clydesdale and Ron for #3 MTB in his category. And an extra shoutout to Ron for snagging #3 in Cat 2 50-59 Men for the entire Oregon XC Series! That’s a lot of racing! But it’s not just about the podium: Brad, Maria “No Cramping” Bartini, and Ryan C raced the Bend Dirt Fest MTB, and let’s not forget our dedicated volunteers who swept the gravel course (no small feat): Kim, Wayne, Sally, and Steve.

Stay cool and we’ll see you at the Bend Summer Crit Series on Wednesday and the High Cascades 100 on Saturday 🚴‍♀️🍻

There's a lot happening in the Boneyard Cycling world at the moment, from a weekend gravel riding trip to Mitchell, regular group happy hour socials at Boneyard, local crit, gravel, and MTB racing, mid-week gravel and mountain bike rides, volunteering at the Pole Pedal Paddle, and long training rides in preparation for High Cascades 100 to name a few. If any of this sounds like your thing, we'd love to have you join the team. And if you're quick, you can get in on the current kit order (closing 6/28). Today we look back at recent races in Sisters. Boneyard was well represented at Cascade Gravel with Garrett and Jason on the short, Sally, Matt A., Frank, and Marcus on the medium (and big congrats to Cam for 1st place in Women’s Masters on the medium!), and Ron and Justin on the big, which apparently was quite big.

A big bunch of Boneheads raced the Sisters Stampede, a Central Oregon XC classic: Chris I., Jim I., Justin (3rd place in age group!), Pat, Grant L., Brad, and Thomas. Fabulous weather, fabulous work, team!

Lately with Boneyard Cycling: Mud-o-rama at Silver Falls XC for Ron, Maria, Scott, Laurie (1st AG!), Peter G. (1st AG!). Meanwhile, on the dry (so…very…dry) side of the mountains, Cam, David W., and Sally did some course recon for the Cascade Gravel race, and pretty much everyone has been riding McKenzie Pass, which has been riding beautifully through various weather patterns. If you haven’t gotten up there yet, do it before the cars show up! You’ll probably run into someone you know.

Some Boneheads also volunteered at Pole Pedal Paddle last week, where it was like raaaaaaaain on your wedding da—oh wait, this was *actually* ironic: ski segments were converted into run segments due to lack of snow and guess what? It snowed overnight, making for a very, er, weathery run and bike experience 🥶

All in all, good times and well done, all! Ride Hard, Finish Thirsty!

Not into racing? We love that for us! The team has weekly gravel and MTB social rides welcome to all. Last week’s gravel ride was a bit dusty, modeled here by Kim. Bonus: team gravel rides usually end at 🍕 🤤

Riding on the coast: remember how we were talking about the forest? The coastal forest, while beautiful, can be a cruel and wily mistress, with chunky, irregular gravel roads and big, sneaky potholes that lurk in the shadows waiting to throw you off your game and maybe off your bike 😬 Sunday’s West Coast Gravel in Yachats had all that—but at least there was no rain ( ). Kim (podium!) and Wayne raced the long course and James, Tanya, and Kathy took on the short. Soooo, Kathy had an unfortunate and rather scary dust-up with the aforementioned rough terrain and we are all so very glad she is okay, and thankful for the teammates and crew who coordinated to get her and her stuff sorted out after receiving medical care. She is one tough cookie! Mmm…cookies. I mean, great job everyone, and be safe out there!

OH ALSO. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention this cool photo of Wayne and his sweet new bike! Look how pretty it is!

Riding on the coast: it’s wild and scenic and beachy, and then all of a sudden you start climbing and you’re in the deep forest with nary a salt water taffy to be found. Like, whoa. On May 2, Wayne, Steve, and Kim (podium!) rode the long course at the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic; Jim and Kathy rode the new medium course (Kathy won her age group!), and Nic crushed the short course and landed on the podium too. Nice work!

At the May 2 Eagle MTB, the second in the PNW XC Series put on by , Ron Miles rode hard and finished thirsty (thirst level assumed — editorial license). How hard did he ride? Ron rode so hard that he won 1st in his Cat 2 Men 50-59 age group! Congrats!
