The burden of unspoken expectations feels a bit like wearing that gifted sweater Great Aunt Betty got you
There’s that family obligation to wear it
But secretly, you hate every minute of it
It itches
It smells like her house
And it’s just… not you
After the baby was born, my partner and I had a conversation about childcare. We decided together that, I would become the primary caregiver during the workday
It made sense
And for a while, it worked
As someone who had already raised two children, I naturally approached parenting with more trust. I let baby explore, discover, and make mistakes. I loved watching him wander into Dad’s office, climb onto his lap, or crawl across his back
I thought it was sweet
But over time, our cohabitation stopped feeling easeful
My partner seemed frustrated. He would jump up to redirect our son and then become irritated that I wasn’t watching more closely
I felt edgy and watchful
My body was constantly scanning—trying to manage my son and anticipate my partner’s reactions
It was exhausting
Neither of us had actually talked about what was happening
One evening, when baby was asleep, we finally did
I learned that what felt endearing to me felt distracting to him
We realized we weren’t struggling with childcare
We were living inside two different sets of expectations that had never been spoken aloud
Once we could see that, everything softened
We rearranged our space
We adjusted our rhythms
We stopped assuming and started communicating
And once again, I was reminded how BRILLIANT my body is
The uneasiness I’d been experiencing wasn’t asking me to become better or do more
It was asking me to become curious
To me, that’s embodiment
It’s not just slowing down or feeling more present
It’s recognizing that a clenched jaw
A distracted mind
Walking on eggshells
A loss of ease
…aren’t inconveniences to push through
They’re data. Data inviting us toward the conversation, the boundary, or the change we’ve been avoiding
Because without honesty, it’s easy to lose precious pieces of self

As I cleaned up the forgotten breakfast mess and prepared my one year old’s lunch for the umpteenth time I noticed a dull ache of dissatisfaction.
I strapped baby into his seat, gave him some food, and sank into my own seat and my own body in search of the root of this “dissatisfaction” I was experiencing.
When I gave my body that moment to communicate with me I found a few truths.
I was lonely.
I was overworked.
I was hungry.
At the heart of things I wasn’t completely nourishing myself the way I needed.
It shows up in the way we:
~forget to shower
~stop doing the things we love
~feel stuck in a hamster wheel
Nurturing your mind, body, and soul first allows you to support everything and everybody else intentionally — without the need to over give.
When I eat the healthy food my body craves, when I trust community to hear and to hold me, when I create the task hierarchy and decide what really matters… that’s when magic happens.
~my creative capacity is at bursting SO
I write that proposal and send it off
~I love every teensy “boring” moment of my day SO
lunch becomes a pleasure to create
~I feel at ease and in flow, like everything is exactly as it should SO
I ride the waves of life and enjoy it

Spring is here 🌸
and for me that has brought
a sense of expansion
and a bit of unease
I see a backyard tree
budding then flowering then fading
I see all the beauty
and birth around me
I also see all the work
to be done this time of year
There is a nudging energy
that tells me
to do more
.. plan that workshop
design that package
clean the garage
finish the pile of clothes
that need stain treatment
But I know
even if every stain was treated
the garage de-cluttered
the plans created
and the list seemingly checked off-
that nudge might not leave me alone
From many many
introspective moments
focused on these nudges
I have come to realize
that nudges to DO MORE
almost always actually mean
to STOP everything
Because the nefarious
double side of
DO MORE
is a whisper of
YOU ARE NOT ENOUGH
~And that
is not something
I desire
to be working towards~
What if instead of taking
“spring cleaning”
into the physicality
of do-ing more
we sat with the discomfort
and unknown of
pausing
to do nothing first?
You might just find
in that sweet pause
of nothing
a quieter invocation
asking for your attention
Maybe
its an early morning walk
coffee with a good friend
complete presence with a blossom

.. What is your body desiring before the do-ing?

Using natures rhythms to create evolution in my own life looks like
Taking that barefoot step outside even in the winter
Basking in moonlight at all phases
Touching icy river water
Watching my garden shift
Catching a sunrise or set
Foraging for whatever is in bloom
It’s easy to stay inside when it’s cold
It’s easy to get on your phone and scroll
It’s easy to never take moments with the moon
It’s easy to override your body’s desires
But jumping into nature, even in the smallest way, WILL shift your perspective and guide you back into alignment
Try intimacy with the full moon tonight
If only between the car and the house
Stare up into her brilliance
Let her radiance envelope you

Still feeling postpartum after this hike!
Every year when my kids start school again I see my mama friends that I didn’t keep up with through the summer and they tell my some version of the same thing
☀️summer was so busy☀️
All the sun
All the fun
All the friends
All the rivers
All the lakes
All the camping
All the family
All the music
One season to fit all the fun
Don’t forget to slow down and
✨Taste the sweat on your upper lip
✨Laugh really hard
✨Ask how the check out person’s day is
✨Feel gratitude
✨Look at the stars
✨Hear the opposition with an open heart
✨Fall in love with your wrinkles
✨Let your kids make the plans
✨Taste a garden tomato 🍅
✨Give in to that nap
Inhabit the moment
Inhabit your body

Rites of Passage are pauses in the chaos of life
A pause to honor moments that fly too fast 💨
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My daughter found the idea of celebrating her growing up and her menstrual cycle quite alarming
But I was set on creating a moment for her to remember
I was going to give her something I never had
I was going to weave power and confidence into her adolescence
I was going to celebrate her blood 🩸
I talked her into it and she was able to have the experience with a few close friends last year before entering middle school
I was crying by the end of it and she was glowing with all the care and attention we mothers showered on her and the other girls
“Mom thank you, I really loved today”
She said to me afterwards
This mama is ready to invite a few clients into her work/life balancing act!!
Even though breastfeeding every 2 hours and through the night feels like a full time job
Even though taking care of my babe creates pleasure in my life
Taking care of my babe is not my end all be all
I can not live just for my baby and my kids
I love my kids
And I love my separateness from my kids
I love me too
And right now what I’m craving is the mentor me, the coach me, the me that guides another woman into her muchness
I’m ready for you
Maybe you are a fellow mama in search of some separation from the role of “mom”
Maybe you have been stuck in someone else’s script and you’re ready to start starring in your own story
Maybe you are uncomfortable in your own skin and you just want to feel the freedom to dance at that upcoming concert
Whatever itchy scratchy uncomfortable something you are experiencing
We can work with it
We can integrate it
We can turn it into fuel for your dreams
