NC Budo is a competitive martial arts center located in downtown Belmont, NC, with a satellite afterschool center in downtown Gastonia. Our affordable afterschool and camp programs are a popular choice for busy families. We also offer a variety of classes, ranging from mindfulness and yoga to competitive and classical Okinawan Kempo Karate. Our founders, Sensei Michael Baez and Sensei Jena Hare, are accomplished martial artists with a passion for helping students of all ages develop mental discipline, emotional stability and physical conditioning. We welcome students from 3 to older adults, with customized plans that can be tailored to each person’s development. Team trial week for the 2026-2027 season is underway! It’s not too late to join us today at 5:30pm to experience team kata and weapons training.

Every great competitor starts somewhere.

Last week, two of our competition team brothers stepped in front of our after-schoolers to show them what competition training looks like, share a little about their experience, and answer their questions.

The cheering? Immediate. 😂
The giggling every time they hit a kia…Also immediate. 😂
The admiration? Very real.

These boys were once watching the older students they looked up to. Now they’re the ones inspiring the next generation.

And if your child has been curious about competition, it’s not too late to try!

Our intermediate and advanced students aren’t just learning what to do. They’re learning how to think, adapt, communicate, and respond.

Martial arts gives kids a place to practice all of those things in real time, with real people, in a room where it’s okay to try, mess up, laugh, and try again.
