Drew Lepine went 8-for-12 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, and 7 RBIs on Monday night. That's not a typo. Eight hits. In one game. His Drew Tang Clan teammate Cameron Kash went 6-for-11 with 2 HRs and 6 RBIs in the same game. That's 14 combined hits and 13 combined RBIs from two guys in a single outing, and somehow the Tigers still managed to make it interesting by scoring 12 runs of their own. Bayardo Perez went 5-for-8 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs for the Tigers, Kenny Bradford went 5-for-6 with a HR, 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs, Matt Ostrowski added 4-for-8 with a HR, 2 doubles, and 4 RBIs, and Brenden Regan chipped in 3-for-9 with 2 HRs. This game had an absolutely absurd amount of offense on both sides — but Drew Tang Clan's 18-12 win was never really in doubt once Lepine started doing what Lepine was doing. We'll come back to the rest of this game in a moment.
Monday's action was packed across all four early games, so let's run through it.
The 6:15 PM slate opened with a wild one between the Wiffle Whackers and Santa Claude's Elves that needed eight innings to settle. George Paskal was dealing — 7.1 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, and 18 strikeouts. Eighteen. Conner Gadbury matched him pitch for pitch for most of the night and finished with 11 strikeouts of his own, going 8 full innings and also going 3-for-6 with a HR and 2 RBIs at the plate. That was genuinely impressive from Gadbury, but Paskal was on another level. Xander Bruner gave the Whackers the firepower they needed, going 2-for-6 with 2 home runs, 2 RBIs, and 2 walks. Jason Huff added a HR and an RBI. Wiffle Whackers survived 3-2 in extras and moved to 4-0 on the season. The Elves drop to 1-3 and are now on a two-game skid.
Also at 6:15, Fourgone Conclusion and Dunder Wifflin played one of the better individual performances of the season — at least until the Drew Tang Clan situation happened. Taylor Bryan went 5-for-6 with THREE home runs, 4 RBIs, and a walk. That line is not missing anything. Five hits, three of them gone, and Fourgone Conclusion still lost. Because Dunder Wifflin walked it off 7-5. TJ Graves got the win going 6 innings and allowing 5 runs, while Brandon Eckert took the loss after a rough 4.2 innings giving up 7 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks. Matt Turner went 2-for-5 with a HR and 4 RBIs for Dunder Wifflin, and Jim Sanders quietly went 3-for-4. Ryan Strong added 2-for-5 with a HR and 2 RBIs. Bryan did everything he possibly could — going 5-for-6 with three home runs and losing is genuinely painful — but Dunder Wifflin found a way. Dunder Wifflin moves to 3-1 and a three-game win streak. Fourgone Conclusion falls to 2-2.
The third 6:15 PM game wasn't particularly close. L7 Weenies beat the Dingo Dongs 9-1, and Oscar Pérez was the reason. On the mound: 6 innings, 8 hits, 1 run, 16 strikeouts, zero walks. Zero. At the plate: 3-for-5, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs. The guy pitched and hit his team to a blowout win almost by himself. Tyler Mairose backed him up going 4-for-7 with 2 RBIs, and Owen Weber and Brandon Turner each added a HR and 2 RBIs. Scott Fluegel had a rough night on the mound for the Dongs — 5 innings, 11 hits, 9 runs, and 7 walks — though he did go 5-for-8 at the plate, which is the kind of stat line you put in a museum when everything else is a disaster. L7 Weenies move to 3-1. Dingo Dongs drop to 1-3.
Then there's that Drew Tang Clan vs. Tigers game, which we already touched on. Lepine didn't just hit — he also threw 6 innings, gave up 20 hits and 12 runs, and still got the win because his offense was completely unhinged. Bayardo Perez started on the mound for the Tigers and lasted 3 innings, allowing 12 runs on 18 hits. The final was 18-12 and there were a lot of hits by a lot of people and everyone should just look at those stat lines again. Drew Tang Clan goes to 2-2 on the season. Tigers fall to 0-4.
Moving into the 7:15 PM games.
Dunder Wifflin made it a clean sweep with another walk-off, this time beating Santa Claude's Elves 4-3. Matt Turner (Votto) picked up the win on the mound — 5 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 6 strikeouts, no walks — and went 3-for-6 with a double at the plate. Ryan Strong went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles. Jim Sanders went 2-for-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs. Dave Handley gave the Elves life going 2-for-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs, and Conner Gadbury — who threw 8 innings earlier in the evening — came back and threw another 4.2 innings in the nightcap. The man pitched a LOT of wiffle ball on Monday. Gadbury also went 2-for-4 with a triple. The Elves just couldn't get the late run they needed. Santa Claude's falls to 1-3 with a two-game losing streak.
L7 Weenies completed their own sweep with a 4-3 walk-off over the Drew Tang Clan, which is the third walk-off of the night at this point and somehow it still felt dramatic. Brandon Chitwood threw 6 complete innings and got the win, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits. Tyler Mairose went 2-for-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs, and Chitwood added 2-for-5 with a HR of his own. Drew Lepine — who, again, went 8-for-12 earlier — came back and went 5-for-9 with an RBI in the nightcap. The man went 13-for-21 on the night across both games. L7 Weenies move to 3-1 and a two-game winning streak. Drew Tang Clan finishes 1-1 on the week and sits at 2-2.
Fourgone Conclusion closed out their night with a 4-1 win over the Tigers. Taylor Bryan, who already had 3 HRs and 4 RBIs in the early game, took the mound this time and threw 6 innings allowing just 1 run. Brenden Regan started on the mound for the Tigers and walked 10 batters in 6 innings, which is... a lot. Brandon Eckert went 3-for-6 with an RBI for Fourgone Conclusion. The Tigers have now lost all four games to start the season and sit at 0-4 with a run differential of -20.
George Paskal capped his night in the 7:15 slot as well, throwing 7 more innings for the Wiffle Whackers against the Dingo Dongs, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 14 strikeouts. The man threw 14.1 combined innings on Monday with 32 combined strikeouts. Aidan Ayer went 3-for-5 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs to do the heavy lifting offensively. Roy Clayton III had a monster night at the plate for the Dongs going 6-for-11 with a double and an RBI, but Scott Fluegel had now pitched in both games and combined for 12 innings, 21 hits, 15 runs, and 21 strikeouts on the night. Wiffle Whackers win 6-3 in seven innings and go to 4-0 on the season. The only undefeated team standing. 🏆
Through four weeks, the Wiffle Whackers sit alone at the top at 4-0 with a +19 run differential. L7 Weenies and Dunder Wifflin are both 3-1 and right behind them at 1 GB. Fourgone Conclusion and Drew Tang Clan are tied at 2-2. Santa Claude's Elves and Dingo Dongs are each 1-3. And the Tigers are looking for their first win at 0-4. 🙏
