BELLEFONTE - Under less than ideal conditions, the Bellefonte boys soccer team had a rain filled contest to celebrate their seniors on Senior night.
Going up against a fiesty Central team Monday, the Raiders got a hat trick from Seth Caton to give the die hard fans something to celebrate.
Central got an inspirational effort from goalie Mason Robison. Robison knocked away numerous shots that needed extreme efforts to get to to keep the Dragons within scoring range the entire evening.
“I give good give credit to Central. They come out they were scrappy. They played hard,” said Bellefonte coach Scott Martz. �And especially the 1st half, I thought that I would hustle us a couple balls and all. We were pattern their keeper. He made some beautiful saves. �A couple of them, I have no idea how he made it, but he made some beautiful stops tonight. We just got persevering, They only got the 1st one in, and then that 2nd one came in for us, and we got battling back and forth, but yeah, tough conditions tonight.”
Bellefonte opened the game and went right to work.
Offensively, the Raiders pushed the ball and pressed the Central defense and started to fire away at the goal.
Defensively, the Raiders were able to cut down the outside running lanes keeping the speedy Owen Huber in check.
The shots were fast and furious at the Central goal, Bellefonte posted 18 shots in the first half.
Time after time the Raiders attack the goal and each time they would go back empty handed.
But as the first half started to wind down, the Red Raiders found an opening and took advantage of it.
Cole Stabinger found an open Caton and he blasted a shot that slid past the goalie, giving Bellefonte up 1-0 with 6:35 left in the half.
Before the Dragons defense was able to settle in, Caton used his speed to get behind the Central back-third and picked up goal number two. The goal came less than one minute later.
“It's nice to see him getting back in the swing of things again. The guys were feeding him the balls, and he had some great shots on the goal,” said Martz. You could tell, he got a little frustrated in the first half, and then he's just started settling down and finished his shots off tonight for us. Getting that hat trick was nice.”
Through the second half, the Raiders continued to shut down the running lanes of the Dragons, leaving them frustrated.
The Dragons cut the Bellefonte lead to just one when Jacob Heuston slid a bullet past the Red Raiders goalie to cut the lead to 2-1 at 27:58
But the Raiders were not going to be denied on this night.
At 21:04, Caton notched goal number three and gave his team some vision. 3-1.
Despite the rain increasing neither team could find the back of the net as Bellefonte went onto the victory.
Bellefonte will be back in action against rival Bald Eagle on Wednesday.

Saturday, the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team continues its winning ways as the Lady Eagles dominated their Saturday contest against MoValley 5-1.
Bald Eagle took care of the shots on goal leading 20-7 while it also led in corner opportunities by a 8-0 advantage.
“We got off to a bit of a slow start in the first half. We did get a good long range goal from Maddy Jones, but conceded too easily afterwards,” said Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore. “In the second half, you could see the switch flip for them and all of a sudden they started connecting passes and moving the ball down the field. They put 4 more goals in the back of the net. Emma Collins had a great finish from a corner kick and Addie Tice put a nice cross in front of the goal for Savanna Albright to finish were the highlights.”
“On defense, Kendall Smith had herself a game. She was lights out on defense and marked one of their best forwards. She shut her down all game. It was an outstanding effort. She even finished off the scoring by finding the net herself off of a corner kick. It was an overall great team win.”
Cami Walker was tough in the goal for the Lady Eagles as she saved six.
Maddy Jones started the scoring thanks to an assist by Abby Hacker at 5:55.
Tied at one, Emma Collins put her team back in the lead with a goal with an assist by Addie Tice at 47:34.
Addie Tice’s unassisted goal
at 50:40 increased the lead less than four minutes later.
Savanna Albright off a pass from Addie Tice put her name in the scorebook at 51:31.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Eagles was Kendall Smith. Smith posted an unassisted goal at 54:12.

With the win the BEA record improved to 4-2-1.
Next up for Bd Eagle Area is a Tuesday showdown with Clearfield.

Thursday night, the up and coming Bellefonte girls volleyball team went up against a powerhouse Hollidaysburg team. In the end it was all Lady Tigers winning 3-0 (8-25, 26-28, 17-25).

Thursday the Bellefonte golf team hosted Sugar Valley at the Nittany Country Club.
In the end, the Raiders took home the victory 325-496.
Leading the way for Bellefonte was Jacob Davis with a 76. Evan VonGunden was next as he posted a 79.
Teammates Wesley Colm and Joseph Swentowsky tied with an 85 while Parker VanGundon rounded out things for Bellefonte with a 95.
Leading the way for Sugar Valley was London Pletcher with a 104.

WINGATE - After an impressive 12-0 victory over Penns Valley earlier in the week, the Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team showed that its defense came be just as impactful.
Just ask visiting Huntingdon.
After another late afternoon rain debut by Mother Nature, the match up between Bald Eagle Area’s and Huntingdon girls teams started out as a sloppy one, field wise. Definitely not defensively.
Despite the wet conditions the gutted it out as the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady ‘Cats 1-0 at Alumni Stadium at Bald Eagle in a Laurel Highlands Thursday match up.
“These guys, they come out, and they moved, and Huntingdon was a good team. They matched up with us well. They pressed us,” said Bald Eagle Area coach Jared Moore.�“And, you know, they had number eight (Danelya Fortson). She was fast, she was good, she gave us some trouble all night. But the defense held the line, and, you know, they did well.”�“Lily Johnson, excellent on defense tonight. She really stepped up to the plate when we needed her there at the end of the game, got those balls cleared out Mackenzie Harbold also was very good. Two center backs, were very good tonight, so I’m really appreciative of their effort.”
With the victory, Bald Eagle also jumped over the .500 mark on the year now standing at 3-2-1.
Early on both defenses proved to be tough as neither team was able to hold significant time in their opponents side of the field.
With 32:43 showing on the clock Bald Eagle struck the lone goal of the half
Lining up for a free kick at the 30 Nola Briscoe sailed a shot past Huntingdon goalie Avery Phillips to give the home team the lead early.
“Nola is great. She's our free kick dagger, and she does very well. She's got a knack for those long range, long range shots,” said Moore. �The shot was excellent, it was perfect placement, saw the keeper, then a far post. Excellent shot.”
Then both teams clamped down its defense keeping the other predominantly out of the others end.
Bald Eagle just missed making it a 2-goal lead when Savanna Albright found herself on a breakaway attempt. Going one-on-one with Phillips Albright sent a liner that was stopped in its tracks, keeping the game stuck at one.
The Bearcats came out very aggressively to start the second, they pushed the ball right down into the Bald Eagle back-third.
But despite being outshot 6-3 in the half, the defense continued to clear things out.
Walker also was busy throughout the second, nailing three clutch saves.
Time after time the Bearcats tried to force in a goal and each time they would go back downfield frustrated and still scoreless.
Despite the intensity level rising with each ticking minute, the Young Eagles were up to the challenge en route to the victory.
“I think it was character building. I told him, I would take a one nothing nail biter that does a lot for your psyche, that does a lot for it. You know, the team, in general, that know that you can win a game like that, because we tied a game where we were up one nothing late,” said Moore. �And so to know that you can come back and do that is really, really, really great, great feeling. Good for the girls.
Bald Eagle is back in action Saturday at Moshannon Valley.

Wednesday evening, Bellefonte boys soccer team found itself in a nail biter of a contest against Hollidaysburg. The Golden Tigers would top the Raiders 3-2.
“We got to a slow start. It’s been a week since we have played and it showed early,” said Bellefonte coach Scott Martz. In the 2nd half the guys started connecting on passes and winning 50/50 balls. I was very pleased with our 2nd half effort.”
1st half scoring Hollidaysburg 4:27 Devin Walters.
Bellefonte battled back to tie things at one. At 21:23 Jamin Ondrasik scored on a pass from Seth Catan.
Hollidaysburg scored again at. 29:45 on Devin Walter’s first goal of the game.
Hollidaysburg was back at it in 32:10 when Devin Walters blasted a goal to round out the first half scoring.
Rounding out the game scoring was Bellefonte’s Keegan Timblin who posted a goal at 46:21 .
Hollidaysburg outshot Bellefonte 11- 7.
The Tigers led in corner opportunities 7-2.
With the loss Bellefonte falls to a record of record 3-1.

Bellefonte XC Meet Summary

Despite hot, humid 80-degree conditions, the Bellefonte cross country teams put up strong individual efforts against Hollidaysburg and Clearfield.

Jonathan Gasper delivered the performance of the day, finishing 1st overall in the boys' race with a time of 17:00, leading the boys to a meet split. On the girls' side, freshman Alissa Kyte-Yech paced the squad with a top finish of 22:52.
