10-14yr olds are an interesting age group.
They're still kids, but they're also old enough to handle more complex situations.
Smart enough to do geometry and learning to write essays, but that prefrontal cortex is still developing which means that sometimes, they don't always make the best choices.
Our classes focus on teaching them critical thinking skills and giving them an environment where if they make a mistake, they have a chance to learn.
Sure, they can be embarrassed, upset, and frustrated. That's supposed to happen. We aren't here to save them from feeling those emotions.
What we do at River Forge is talk them through the hard experiences, let the students think about how to handle a situation, and guide them to better options if/when they need a little help.
Here on the training floor, these kids get a chance to take accountability, learn that they have choices, and make decisions on their own which builds their confidence.
We build resilient kids at River Forge.
