❤️ TUMBLE TOTS / TINY TOTS MOMS: Did you know the little things we do in class are actually BIG things for your toddler’s development?
It may look like we’re crawling, climbing, jumping, hanging and playing…but behind all that fun, your child’s brain and body are doing some pretty amazing work!
At this age, movement is one of the most important ways children learn. Here are just a few examples:
👶 CRAWLING
Even if your toddler is already walking, crawling is still incredibly valuable! Crawling uses opposite sides of the body together, strengthens the shoulders and core, builds coordination and helps develop the body awareness children will later use for things like writing, dressing themselves, climbing and navigating the playground.
⬆️ LEARNING TO JUMP
That tiny little two-foot jump is a BIG developmental milestone! Your child has to bend their knees, generate enough force to leave the ground, coordinate both sides of their body and then balance when they land. It takes strength, timing, confidence and motor planning all working together.
🧗 CLIMBING
When your toddler figures out how to climb over, under or around an obstacle, they’re learning to problem-solve. How do I get my body from here to there? They’re developing strength, spatial awareness and confidence at the same time.
⚖️ WALKING ON BALANCE BEAMS & UNEVEN SURFACES
Those little wobbly steps are teaching balance, concentration, body control and perseverance. They also help children learn to adjust their bodies when their environment changes.
🙌 HANGING & SUPPORTING THEIR BODY WEIGHT
Holding onto a bar builds grip, shoulder, arm and core strength. Those strong little hands and upper bodies will eventually be used for everything from playground equipment to holding pencils, using scissors and carrying a backpack.
👂 FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS & WAITING FOR A TURN
This may be one of the biggest benefits of all! Your toddler is practicing listening to another adult, following simple instructions, transitioning from one activity to another, participating in a group and beginning to understand taking turns.
Those are school-readiness skills long before your child ever walks into a kindergarten classroom.
And when your toddler tries something that feels a little scary, doesn’t get it the first time, tries again…and finally does it? ❤️
They’re learning:
“I can do hard things.”
That’s why we don’t look at Tiny Tots and Tumble Tots as simply an introduction to gymnastics.
We’re helping build strong bodies, developing brains, confident little personalities and skills your child will carry onto the playground, into the classroom and throughout life.
And the best part?
They just think they’re playing. ❤️
That’s the magic of Tiny and Tumble Tots at Arcadia Gymnastics. 🤸
