NEW LOGO JUST DROPPED 👀 💧

UCGA’s first PURPLE & GOLD CUP (rebranded UC Cup) was a smashing success, especially for Team Gold and Captain Chase Trichell, who won Cup by a whopping 53 points over Team Purple and Captain Howard Mullins.

50 Gold players squared off against 50 Purple teammates for five sessions: Fourball, modified alternate shot, and scramble Saturday, followed by two separate singles matches Sunday.

Gold took commanding 33.5-point lead (253 to 219.5) after first 18 holes, but Purple gained ground over next two sessions, outscoring Gold 357.5 to 348.5, narrowing margin to 24.5 heading into final singles matches. That was closest Purple would ever get to Cup though, because Gold slammed the door shut. Hard.

Of 50 final matches, Gold either won or pushed 34, outpacing Purple 249.5 to 221, widening its lead by another 28.5 points for total victory margin of 53 – which is believed to be biggest win in Cup history. Starting strong and finishing strong made the difference (for details, access results via Golf Genius GGID “UCCUP26”).

It took 108 years, but a historical full-circle moment has been cemented by Tiger standout :

The Championship has been played 125 times – every year since 1895 (except during WWI and WWII). Those hiatus years were especially impactful for Iceland too.

Iceland did not become sovereign state until 1918 (immediately following WWI armistice). Not coincidentally, The Great War forced U.S. Open cancelation in 1917 and 1918.

Our National Championship was also halted from 1942 through 1945 due to WWII. Iceland—without a military—welcomed and hosted American troops, who established bases and other North Atlantic fortifications critical to victory. When WWII ended, Iceland officially became its own country in 1944. The U.S. was first nation to acknowledge Iceland’s independence.

108 years after Iceland achieved sovereignty and 82 years after it became a country, an Icelandic player has at last qualified for U.S. Open. And not only is Árni Sveinsson a product of “The Ole War Skule” (term highlighting LSU’s integral role during WWI and WWII), but the 2026 U.S. Open starts on June 18 – one day after Iceland Independence Day…

Our very own “Bayou Boys” are returning from Arizona desert with one of golf’s most prestigious trophies: U.S. Amateur Four-Ball title. Lawrence Allan and Grady Brame, Jr. are bringing a national championship back to Louisiana and University Club!

A flurry of messages, emojis, gifs, and exclamation points flooded UC text strings all day and evening. Lawrence and Grady, Jr. stayed cool while going -42 in 90 holes of match play, ultimately winning championship match 4&3.

Meanwhile, the real heat was felt by our members, who sweated every hole awaiting updates from Grady Brame, Sr., reporting live from Scottsdale. When final putt disappeared into hole, so did any doubt as to best four-ball team in America: and .

Congrats, gentlemen, on achieving one of greatest amateur golf accomplishments in the sport. UC and Louisiana are proud beyond measure. Now… good luck backing this up at Tiger 4-Ball next weekend! 😅💥💪

Either way, we want to remind all competitors to savor the golf this year, as we’ll be traveling from La. to L.A. next season for Super Bowl LXI (behind current Rookie of Year Tyler Shough). And to those not playing this weekend, we say, “The weather is here – we wish you were beautiful!”

Just kidding about last one (that was 1989). But for first time since 2021, UCGA is hosting UC Cup, pitting Purple vs. Gold for bragging rights and team supremacy.

Former UCGA President Tim Melancon will captain Team Purple, along with Vice Captains Greg Berthelot and John Schiller. Current President Chase Trichell will lead Team Gold with assistance from Vice Captains Billy Joe Tolliver and BG Lanoix.

Pairings reveal party will take place in clubhouse the Friday night before tourney. All participants will play 5 matches of 9 holes each (18 Saturday, 27 Sunday). You do not want to miss this one…

3 months before LSU kicked off its undefeated season leading to 1958 National Championship, another champion was born “Down Da Bayou”… UC’s own Tim Melancon. And Tim shares MUCH in common with fellow athlete Billy Cannon, including a flare for the dramatic finish.

On his 67th birthday yesterday, Uncle T won the 2025 Super Senior Baton Rouge Open by ONE stroke over a stacked field, carding consecutive rounds of 70 to finish -4 through 36 holes.

Tim mowed down the defending champ, who had a 2-shot lead after an opening 68. Uncle T also warded off other UC legends, including Lindsay Spiller (3rd), Scott Haynie (T5th), Frank Schroeder (9th), and Ken Miller (11th).

CONGRATS TO THESE GENTLEMEN FOR REPPING UC SO ADMIRABLY. YOUR CLUB IS PROUD! 🏆 👏
