Upcoming matches in Bandera.

Bandera IDPA & Defensive matches are on the 2nd Saturday of the month. IDPA Rules in odd numbered months. Simpler defensive rules in even numbered months. Round counts around 80-100.

Bandera Steel Challenge matches are on the 3rd Saturday. Round count is 150 if you don’t miss.

Important Safety Announcement:

Folks,

Please DO NOT THROW empty paint cans (or any pressurized containers, or even metal) in burn barrels.

Mary Clements called me this morning, and said when she lit the burn barrels recently, a pressurized paint can blew up and threw the burning can some distance away.

Thankfully, she was not injured, but she was pretty shaken.

I will ensure we have a separate trash receptacle for paint cans at future Bandera matches.

I had a few minutes today before doing a trial run for a new class I’m planning to present, and I used it to run the August Rangemaster Drill of the Month.

This month’s drill is an updated 3 second standards. The full course of fire is below.

These were my first shots of the day, and the week.

I really like Jim Shanahan’s habit of substituting a harder target for the prescribed one, so I used a Shootsteel target rather than anIDPA or Rangemaster Q target.

The IDPA and RM Q targets have an 8” circle in the torso scoring area, versus the Shootsteel’s 5” circle.

I did not cover myself in glory with today’s run.

I left four shots just out of the 5” circle, giving me a 130 out of 150, below the desired 90% or better.

I can do better.

3 Second Standards, version 2.0

Distance- 6 yards Time limit- 3 seconds, every stage

If you use an IDPA target, the chest circle and head box are 10 points, the C Zone is 5 points, and the D Zone is a miss.

15 rounds total, possible sore of 150 points, 135 (90%) or above is “passing”.

Stage 1 Start holstered, concealed. On signal, draw and fire 4 rounds, freestyle

Stage 2 Start gun in hand, dominant hand only, at low ready. On signal fire 3 rounds.

Stage 3 Start gun in hand, in non-dominant hand only, at low ready. Fire 2 rounds on signal.

Stage 4 Start gun in hand, at low ready. On signal, fire 2 rounds to the chest and immediately fire 1 round to the head. Run twice.
