Change happens over time. It takes work to get stronger and build a stronger, healthier body and a healthier relationship with food.

First picture is December 2010, one month after our first Starting Strength seminar. 36 years old. 130lbs.

Second picture is sometime in 2016-2017. 155lbs. 46 years old or so.

Fourth picture is from Friday, August 14, 2026. 51 years old. 155lbs. 4 months out from my hip replacement.

I look at that first picture and I don’t recognize myself. I was finally on the right path to becoming a healthier, stronger woman, more confident, more comfortable with my body but more importantly, beginning to have a better relationship with food. After 30+ years of struggling with an eating disorder/body dysmorphia, strength training was finally my answer. What my body was capable of doing not how my body looked became my goal.

It is still a struggle at times….but overall, I can truly say I am happier with myself and my body these past 16 years than I ever have been. ❤️

Strength training. It does a body and mind good.

Meet Esther! Increasing bone density and reversing osteoporosis at age 71. 08/21/2026

Meet Esther!

In 2018, Esther was diagnosed with osteoporosis, mainly in the spine. Unhappy with that diagnosis, she decided to do something about it. After a brief time doing Crossfit, Esther joined Fivex3 Training in 2020 and has been training here ever since. She has reversed her osteoporosis in those 6 years and is slowly heading toward a diagnosis of "normal." Consistency strength training has been the key to her success.

It’s true. Your bones don’t really care about your feelings. But you will care if you discover you have osteoporosis or osteopenia and there was something you could have done about it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

As Layne Norton, PhD says “Data > Feelings.” 😁

Repost Untraceable

Your bones don’t care about your feelings. ⬇️

In one landmark trial, postmenopausal women who did heavy resistance and impact training twice a week actually increased their bone density, while the control group lost it.

One month post surgery for a right knee replacement!! ❤️

After 2 years of consistent strength training, I knew Marilyn would have no problem after her knee replacement.

Strength matters. Marilyn was up and walking with a walker the day of surgery. She’s taking stairs, doing her PT and now has graduated to just a cane (more for piece of mind than use!!)

She will be back in here the beginning of September ready to get back to training!!

Congratulations, Marilyn!!

Oh and now her husband wants to join. 😂 She’s been training here for 2 years. 💪

Thanks John Petrizzo

Thank you Starting Strength 💪

Stronger is better.

Period.

How Fast Do You Lose Muscle and Strength? | Barbell Medicine 07/17/2026

“A trained lifter who takes two weeks off while still walking to work, eating normally, and being otherwise healthy is in a different physiological situation than someone whose leg is immobilized in a cast after surgery. It’s a different story still for someone in a hospital bed with a serious infection. The frightening muscle-loss numbers almost all come from that last group: immobilization, bed rest, and severe illness.”

A long article but absolutely worth reading. 💪💪

An Encouraging Story of Bone Health at Age 88 - Fivex3 Training 07/06/2026

"At 88 years old, maintaining strong bones is an important part of preserving independence, mobility, and quality of life. And despite what some people might think, one CAN continue to build bone and preserve bone density as one ages IF they start strength training. And yes, one can start a strength training program at any age. ANY age.

My client Mona’s bone density testing over the past several years tells the story of a woman whose skeletal health has remained remarkably resilient despite the natural aging process. I met Mona for the first time in March of 2023, just about three weeks before her 85th birthday. She came with her daughter Liz to the gym one weekend. I showed her how to squat and taught her how to get down to the floor and get back up. After this impromptu session, she was hooked and started strength training with me at the beginning of May 2023."
