Continuing August Awareness with Menopause and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction!

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction is one of the many symptoms closely linked to Menopause; others include cognition, brain fog, sleep, joint pain, metabolic changes, cardiovascular disease risk, and bone health. ✳️

This might show up as stress urinary incontinence (leaking during a cough or sneeze), frequent urges to urinate, or pain during in*******se. ⚡️

Big change in hormones = increased likelihood of pelvic floor issues 🌸

What can help?
Have a discussion with your provider about hormone replacement therapy and build up strength in supporting structures (muscles around the pelvic floor.) 🧑🏼‍⚕️

🚨 3 Things You Should Know About Your Bladder

1️⃣ You shouldn’t have to “just in case” p*e all the time.
Constantly going to the bathroom when you don’t really need to can train your bladder to signal “I have to go!” sooner than necessary.

2️⃣ Your pelvic floor needs to RELAX, too.
Pelvic floor health isn’t just about doing Kegels. Your muscles need to relax and lengthen to allow your bladder to empty properly.

3️⃣ Leaking isn’t something you just have to live with.
Leaking when you sneeze, cough, exercise, or rush to the bathroom is common—but it’s not something you have to accept as “normal.”

💡 Your bladder and pelvic floor work together. When they aren’t coordinating properly, pelvic floor physical therapy can help identify what’s going on and teach you how to improve bladder control.

Save this for later & share it with someone who needs to hear it! 💙

August is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Awareness Month! 🎉🎊

Check out some of the more common dysfunctions here and then look forward to the entire month to dive deeper. We will discuss all the tips, exercises and things we should be aware of going on in our bodies.

This month, let's change the idea that pelvic floor symptoms are just something you have to live with. Let's name the dysfunction and seek treatment. Because common doesn’t mean normal. It means there are a lot of people living with symptoms that may be treatable.
