TREES OF HONOR EVENT
The 2026 event was held Saturday, September 5, at Historic Union Cemetery in Bakersfield and was billed as the 10th Annual Trees of Honor Cancer Awareness Resource Fair.
For Liberty High Wrestling, Alizza Jimenez's participation is significant because she wasn't simply attending the event, she was selected as one of the people sharing a personal story of hope and courage.
That fits perfectly with the event's larger purpose: taking experiences with cancer and turning them into awareness, encouragement, education and hope for the next generation.
Getting our wrestlers involved in this event allowed them to:
• Support their teammate Alizza Jimenez and stand beside her who has experienced childhood cancer.
• Honor and remember those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
• Learn from people in our community who demonstrate courage, service and perseverance.
• See that their influence extends beyond wrestling. They have the ability to encourage and inspire others.
• Represent Liberty High School and show our community what Patriot Wrestling stands for.
• Turn adversity into purpose. Alizza's story showed our wrestlers that difficult experiences can become a source of strength and hope.
The pink ribbons and trees serve as visible memorials for people affected by cancer. The event also incorporates health and wellness education, making it both a memorial and an educational/community outreach event.
Our wrestlers weren't there simply as athletes. They were there as teammates, servants, leaders and young men and women who can make a difference.
That is the heart of WE OVER ME, we don't just wrestle together; we stand together, serve together and lift others up together.
