First varsity action of the season and one thing is for sure…

He wasn’t jogging down on kickoff. šŸ˜‚šŸ”„

Every rep. Every sprint. Every opportunity.

Run like somebody is trying to take it from you.

Run through the finish line.

Then when you think you’re moving fast enough…

remember Mo Greene’s shoes were literally on fire. šŸ”„šŸ‘Ÿ

Keep stacking reps. Keep earning opportunities. Keep getting faster.

One step closer.

Game 3 finally brought his first varsity action of the season.

He got out there on kickoff and got a couple snaps at receiver. I could tell he wanted it. He was flying on the field.

Was it a huge night statistically? No.

But after watching him work, wait, and stay patient, it was pretty damn cool just seeing him step onto that field.

I’m proud of the opportunity, but I’m even more proud of how he has handled the process.

Keep showing up.
Keep giving your best effort.
Keep working when nobody is watching.
And when you finally get a little taste of what you’ve been working for, don’t get satisfied.

This is not the destination.

It’s one step closer to where he needs to be.

Proud of you, son. Now get back to work. šŸ»šŸˆ

Instruction → drilling → live problem solving.

Tonight our Teen Class took what they learned and tested it through live situational games.

That’s where the real learning starts.

We don’t just teach techniques and hope they remember them. We put them in specific situations where they have to recognize the position, understand their job, make a decision, and solve the problem against real resistance.

Learn it.
Drill it.
Test it.
Adjust.
Repeat.

That’s how skill actually develops.

Our goal isn’t to create kids who can memorize Jiu Jitsu moves.

We want them to become grapplers who can think.

Watched Friday night’s film.

Every receiver had something in common.

Double step.
Toe comes up.
Wasted movement at the start.

My son looked at me and said,
ā€œDad, that’s Day 1 stuff.ā€

Exactly.

Everyone wants advanced routes.
Advanced releases.
Advanced footwork.
Advanced training.

But the guys who separate themselves are usually the ones who obsess over the stuff everyone else thinks they’ve already mastered.

Your stance matters.
Your first step matters.
Your first 0.2 seconds matter.

There is no such thing as being ā€œtoo advancedā€ for fundamentals.

DAY 1 STUFF IS EVERYTHING.

6’0ā€, 180 lbs. Great hands. Runs great routes. Quiet kid. Works hard.

Two games into the season and he’s still waiting for his number to be called.

That’s one of the hardest parts of sports. You can prepare. You can practice. You can do everything asked of you. But sometimes, the opportunity still hasn’t come yet.

His grandparents came in this week hoping to watch him play. They got to see a great Friday night football game in Aledo, but unfortunately they didn’t get to see him step on the field.

As a dad, that part is tough.

But I’m proud of how he’s handling it.

No complaining. No making it about himself. He keeps working, keeps preparing, and keeps waiting patiently for his opportunity.

Because eventually, your number gets called.

And when it does, you better be ready.

Keep working, son. Your opportunity is coming.

And hey… at least he’s got some cheerleaders lining up for pictures with him after the game. šŸ˜‚šŸ»šŸˆ
