What Coaches Should Know About the Judges' Tent

Our Head Tent Judge Megan D. put together a few things every coach should know before the season begins.

🏆 Your scoresheet is your roadmap.
Every competition company uses its own scoresheet. Before your first event, download the Cheer America scoresheet from our website and compare it to your routine. Knowing exactly what is being rewarded helps you coach with confidence.

🏆 Visit the Judges' Tent early.
Have a question about your scoresheet or score? Stop by the Judges' Tent as soon as scores are posted. Similar to "AccuScore" at other events, we're there to provide clarification while the performance is still fresh in everyone's mind.

🏆 Every performance starts at zero.
Judges evaluate the routine they see today—not how it looked last weekend or at another competition. Each performance receives a fresh evaluation based on that moment on the floor.

🏆 Use your first competition as a learning opportunity.
Early-season events are the perfect time to ask questions like:
• How can we maximize our score?
• Are athletes clearly visible to every judge?
• Are skills being hidden by formations or stunt groups?
Sometimes a small adjustment in spacing or timing can make a meaningful difference throughout the season.
