HATE DOESN’T GET HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE

During the first round of the Leagues Cup at Q2 Stadium, the discriminatory goalkeeper chant was heard repeatedly throughout Austin FC’s match against Club América, including after warnings were displayed in the stadium. The Supporters Groups of Austin FC condemn the use of this chant unequivocally. It has no place at Q2, in our city, or in our game.

Leagues Cup has protocols specifically designed to address discriminatory chanting. When these incidents repeatedly occur, consequences are supposed to follow. They did not. Austin supporters reported the chant. Warnings were issued. The behavior continued. The response was not meaningfully escalated.

Placing messages on a video board while allowing play to continue shifts the burden onto supporters and stadium attendees instead of the officials who have the authority, and responsibility, to act.

We are calling on the Leagues Cup, Austin FC, participating club, and match officials to establish and consistently implement a response which includes meaningful consequences, including suspension or forfeiture of a match when necessary. We expect Leagues Cup and Austin FC to explain why its anti-discrimination protocol was not fully enforced and what will change before the next match.

Q2 Stadium is our home. Hate doesn’t get home-field advantage here.

Durante la primera ronda de la Leagues Cup en el Q2 Stadium, el grito discriminatorio dirigido al portero se escuchó repetidamente durante el partido entre Austin FC y Club América, incluso después de que se mostraran advertencias. Austin FC have clinched a quarterfinal Leagues Cup berth against Toluca!

As we welcome Club América and its supporters to Q2 Stadium tomorrow, a reminder that the supporters section is for verde and black only. As is standard, those in opposing team kits will not be permitted in the section, and additional stadium staff will be on hand to address any issues. Flag them down or use 35-ASK-VERDE if you see anything unsafe.

Weekend tailgates are BACK like Cuervos on the South End. Tailgate starts at 5pm with complimentary beverages (thanks to Deschutes Brewery and PARTYBOMB) and buildup at Delta Pocket Park before the 8pm match kickoff against Puebla.
