A wild finish to Martinez' Wednesday home game against San Rafael ended with a 12-11 win over the visitors, vaulting the Sturgeon to within 2.5 games of the Pacifics for third place in the Pecos League's Pacific Division standings. Bakersfield's 5-3 win against Austin similarly pushed the Train Robbers 2.5 games ahead of the defending division champions and just 1.5 games behind Dublin, who had the night off. Martinez had been a distant fourth in the standings before winning six of their last seven and becoming a factor in playoff seeding out west.

San Rafael had a 10-7 lead over Martinez going into the bottom of the ninth inning and needed three outs to wrap up the game. Instead, Pacifics reliever Nick Pazos struggled and gave up three runs on five walks and a hit batsman on 46 pitches, sending the contest into overtime. San Rafael regained the lead in the top of the tenth on Fred Buckson's RBI single but Martinez to load the bases against new reliever Justin McFadden, setting the stage for a Jesus Moreno two-out single that plated the tying and winning runs to end the game.

Another heart-thumping end to a game, this time in the Mountain South, as Ryan Flores' two-run single in the bottom of the ninth capped Roswell's comeback 7-6 win over visiting Pecos after trailing 6-4 heading into their last chance at the plate. In the Mountain North, Wyatt Morgan whacked a two-run homer and added a two-run double to lead Trinidad to a 14-8 win over Grand Junction while Garden City kept pace with the Triggers in the standings by outlasting Santa Fe, 13-12, behind Peyton Lewis' four hits and three runs.

A full seven games are on the Pecos League docket for Thursday night. Trinidad and Grand Junction continue their nine-game stretch of facing each other while San Rafael returns to Albert Park to take on Dublin as Martinez gets the Pacific division bye.

Surging Roswell has moved into a virtual tie with Alpine for first place in the Pecos League's Mountain Division South after sweeping the Cowboys in a Tuesday doubleheader at Kokernot Field in Texas.

The Invaders won the opener, 8-5, as Jorge Carrero sliced a two-run double and cracked a solo homer for the visitors; then swamping Alpine, 13-5, in the nightcap behind James Harris, who socked a two-run homer en route to three runs and three RBIs in the contest. Roswell has won nine of their last eleven games since June 23 to go from dueling with idle Pecos for the third and final playoff berth in the Mountain South to being seven percentage points ahead of Alpine in the standings.

Both Trinidad and Garden City won their respective Mountain North games Tuesday to remain two games apart at the top of those standings. Trinidad rode the bat and legs of Wyatt Morgan to an 11-7 home win over Grand Junction at Central Park as Morgan belted a homer and stole two bases to finish with two runs and two RBIs for the Triggers. Garden City overwhelmed Blackwell, 13-2, at Clint Lightner Field in Kansas; Connor Huzicka was a perfect 4-for-4 for the Wind, blasting a homer and scoring four runs on the night.

And Bakersfield tightened up the Pacific Division standings a notch by conking Austin, 16-3, at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Train Robbers second baseman Maxim Fullerton turned in a terrific performance, rapping two homers, stealing five bases, scoring three runs and driving in five. Bakersfield is now just two games behind division leaders Dublin, who fell in Martinez, 8-4, at Waterfront Park's Joe DiMaggio Field. The Sturgeon are quietly sneaking up on third-place San Rafael, whose lead over their Bay Area rivals is now just 3.5 games with less than three weeks left in the regular season.

Martinez will host San Rafael for one of five Pecos League games on Wednesday night. Another big matchup has Grand Junction playing their third night in Trinidad; the two teams shift to Suplizio Field Thursday for three more encounters before returning to Trinidad Sunday to open yet another three-game set.
