Tomorrow evening, we gather. ✨🙏🏼

I first met Swami Prem Sadasivananda years ago, and his teachings have continued to shape the way I understand yoga as a living practice.

Not only what we study.

How we speak.
How we choose.
How we forgive.
How we begin again.
How we bring the teachings into the very ordinary moments of our lives.

This is why I am so looking forward to this weekend’s teachings: Walking the Talk: The Courage to Live Authentically.

Premji has a rare gift for taking deep classical teachings and making them practical, direct, and applicable to daily life. His presence invites inquiry, devotion, discipline, humor, and honesty.

Over the years, his visits have offered our community a chance to sit together in satsang, chant, reflect, ask better questions, and remember that yoga is not separate from life. It is how we live.

You are welcome to join us for the full weekend, or simply come for one teaching, satsang, or kirtan.

No prior experience with kirtan, Sanskrit, meditation, or Sivananda Yoga is required.

Come as you are. Sit. Listen. Chant if you feel called. Receive what is useful.

We begin this auspicious week by celebrating Ganesha —guardian of beginnings & remover of obstacles. Happy Birthday! Jaya Ganesha!

Then, on Thursday, we welcome someone very dear to our studio community & me: Swami Prem Sadasivananda.

Premji arrives September 17 for four days of Empower Your Life Teachings: Walking the Talk — The Courage to Live Authentically.

We begin Thursday evening at 6:30 PM with In Search of Meaning in Today’s World, followed by opening satsang & kirtan.

From there, the weekend unfolds through yoga, teachings, inquiry, kirtan, and community—not simply talking about how we want to live, but asking what it means to actually live it.

You do not have to attend the entire weekend to participate. Come for one teaching. Come for morning Sivananda practice. Come chant with us. Come sit in the room and listen.

Alongside Premji’s visit, you’ll still find several of your regular DTY classes throughout the week. The full schedule is below so you can see exactly what is happening each day.

There are weeks when practice is simply about showing up.

And then there are weeks when we get the opportunity to sit with a teacher, ask better questions, chant together, and remember why we practice in the first place.

This is one of those weeks. Jai Ma. 🙏

Knowing is not the same as living.

Most of us already know a great deal.

We know we should slow down.
We know we should be more present.
We know which habits are helping us—and which ones are not.
We know the conversations we need to have, the boundaries we need to hold, the practices we want to return to.

And still, knowing and living are two different things.

Next week, Swami Prem Sadasivananda returns to Downtown Yoga for four days of teachings, practice, satsang and kirtan centered around one very practical inquiry:

How do we actually walk what we know?

Real Yoga for Real Life.

There is something that happens when you repeat the same sacred words 108 times.

At first, you are saying the mantra. Then somewhere along the way, the repetition begins to quiet everything else, and you find yourself simply resting inside the sound.

Tonight, in honor of Krishna Jayanti, I sat with Bala Krishna and offered 108 repetitions of his mantra.

This is one of the beautiful practices of Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion. In the Sivananda tradition, Bhakti is cultivated through prayer, chanting, japa—the repetition of mantra—and remembrance of God. The practice gives the mind somewhere sacred to return, while gently opening the heart toward love, devotion, and surrender.

And I love that it can be so simple. A flower. A candle. An image that reminds you of the Divine. A mala in your hand. A mantra repeated with sincerity. Bhakti asks us to bring the heart into our practice, and to offer what we have with love.

Tonight, this was my offering.

ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय
Om Namo Bhagavate Vāsudevāya

May the blessings of Krishna go wherever they are needed. ✨🦚🙏🏼

September is here, and with it comes that familiar shift back into routine.

School is starting. Calendars are filling. Life gets busy again.

This is where our practice can be such a steady thing.

Maybe your non-negotiable is one class a week. Maybe it’s Hot Yoga, Sivananda, Pilates, aerial, or an hour to simply slow down and breathe. It doesn’t have to be complicated. The small, consistent practices are the ones that begin to change how we move through everything else.

We’re here seven days a week, with a full September of classes, workshops, teacher training, Student Massage Clinic, and a very special weekend with Swami Prem Sadasivananda.

Take a look at the September schedule, choose what works for you, and put it on the calendar.

And something very special is coming this month…

Swami Premji returns to Downtown Yoga September 17–20 for four days of Satsangha, classical yoga, kirtan, and teachings on what it means to truly walk the path—not simply to know the teachings, but to live them.

A beautiful opportunity to practice, reflect, and spend time in the presence of a beloved teacher and our greater yoga community.

Individual sessions and full-weekend registration are available.

You don’t have to do it all. Just keep showing up.

Eight weeks ago, I began Venture Forward, a business development program through Northeastern University’s Roux Institute, in partnership with the City of Augusta. I went into it thinking I knew DTY pretty intimately. After all, this little studio and I have been through a lot together. But there’s something humbling about taking what you think you know and being willing to look again. To ask better questions. To learn. To adjust. Turns out, that sounds an awful lot like yoga.

The practice on our mat was never meant to stay there. Sādhana is practice for how we live. We observe. We become curious. We notice our patterns and assumptions. And, with any luck, we become willing to see something differently when what’s in front of us asks us to.

Tomorrow, these eight weeks culminate in a presentation:

What I thought I knew. What I know now.
And what I’m doing differently because of it.

Basically, my own little TED Talk. No pressure. 😂

I’m grateful to the City of Augusta, the Roux Institute, the mentors, and the other entrepreneurs I’ve gotten to learn alongside these past eight weeks.

And I’m especially grateful for this little business that keeps asking me to become a better business owner—and a better student.

Turns out, the practice is everywhere.
