Today's Senior Call touched on something that stayed with me.
We talked about older adults who seem to have stopped looking forward to what's next. They've withdrawn from activities they once enjoyed, become isolated, or simply accepted that decline is inevitable because they're "just getting older."
Then I came across this Yale study.
It reminds us that aging isn't a one-way street. Nearly half of the adults studied actually improved physically, mentally, or both over time. One of the strongest predictors? Having a more positive outlook on aging.
Of course, a positive attitude alone won't cure disease or erase life's challenges. But our expectations matter. Staying engaged matters. Having purpose matters. Believing there's still room to grow matters.
As a Senior Home Coach, I've seen people rediscover hobbies, build new friendships, regain confidence after a move, and find joy in this next chapter of life.
Growing older isn't about pretending life is easy. It's about remembering that there is still life to be lived.
