Joseph Pilates said this long before smartphones existed.
Now we spend hours looking down.
Rounded shoulders. Tight chests. Shallow breathing. A body that's working harder than it use to.
Come spend an hour moving in the opposite direction. π
Pilates instructors have a way with words. π
"Sit tall like a Victorian ghost."
"Zip up your ribs."
"Hold your imaginary beach ball."
They sound completely ridiculous... until they suddenly make perfect sense. π€

Sometimes we don't realize how much we've adapted to feeling stiff, tight, achy, or out of balance.
Pilates isn't about forcing your body to do more. It's about teaching it to move better.
I was thinking about this today after I slipped and fell on a rock. Somehow, I walked away without injury, and honestly, I think Pilates had something to do with it. The strength, balance, body awareness, and ability to react quickly that we build in the studio matter outside the studio, too.
A little movement, practiced consistently, can improve strength, balance, posture, mobility, and confidence...so you're working with your body instead of fighting against it.
You don't have to be flexible. You don't have to be athletic. You just have to start.
