Im going to use African American Vernacular English. What time it is!?!?
Time to go up!
1 2 3 go.
The mindset of young athletes is to have fun, but sometimes it can be confusion.
Let’s break it down.
Your son/daughter was brought into this world by you (the parents) and they desire to make you proud.
When it is game time fear can lurk in the minds of your young athlete. It is normal to be nervous, not so good to be scared.
Why are they scared? Could it be something deeper that the young athlete cannot explain.
The root of this stems from their willingness to entertain the crowd. That is a lot of pressure.
I participated in sports growing up and I would often experience this phenomenon. Let’s call it “Entertainment Induced Fear”.
The guys in the big leagues, they are professionals. I’m sure they experience this to, but it’s buried beneath determination. That is what keeps them focused on the goal.
Give your kids goals. That worked for me.
My father told me, in a youth football game, that if I get a big hit or score a touchdown, he will pay me x amount of dollars. This kept me from Entertainment Induced Fear. I was focused on a short-term goal rather than the crowd cheering for me and my team if we won the game.
Parents I challenge you to give you young athletes the proper motivation and not the motivation that satisfies you.
1 2 3 go.

Overlooked athletes is a topic that is very important.
You became an athlete for various reasons.
The spotlight is not always on you, but when it is you stay calm and focus on the fundamentals.

Not sports related, but encouraging.
The world is full of talkers who complain and envy doers… I am telling you, you’re great… now believe it yourself - stop comparing, stop worrying about outside noise and judgment - start slowing down and focusing on what actually matters.
