My latest post on Higher Ed Career Coach.

Why didn’t you get an interview?

You might never know exactly why you weren’t chosen, since most employers don’t share detailed feedback. Often, they avoid this to protect themselves legally, even if their hiring process is fair. This leaves many applicants unsure why they were rejected, making it tough to learn from the experience and refine future applications.

The reality is that being qualified doesn’t always mean you’re interview-worthy. Search committees often get dozens or even hundreds of applications from people who could do the job. Their real task is to figure out which candidates seem most likely to succeed. The ones who get interviews are usually those who show this most clearly.

In this article, we’ll look at common reasons qualified candidates might not get interviews and share practical ways to address each. By tackling these issues, you can make your applications stronger and improve your chances of landing an interview.

Artificial intelligence has become an integral part of today’s technological landscape. From email and search engines to word processors and customer relationship management systems, I encounter new AI features incorporated into the platforms I use every day. The prevalence of these tools presents both benefits and downsides.

In this post, I share some perspectives on how AI is affecting the resume writing profession and how I am using AI in my coaching practice.

Good list. I apologize for the cutoff at the bottom. Facebook puts ads and text over reels and many creators don’t account for that I. Their designs.

In response to a recent question on Reddit about job searching as an older worker, I addressed the concern about potential age discrimination in rejections.

Over the past 16 years, a significant number of my clients have been over 50. I advise them that age discrimination is a possibility and encourage them to persist in their job search until they find an employer who recognizes their valuable contributions.

I adapted my response into the following article:

Tips For Finding a Job as an Older Worker

I hope you'll find it useful.

What advice would you add?
