We honor the firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while helping others in the face of unimaginable danger.

Please join us in congratulating L3600 member Brett Hildebrand on his promotion to Engineer!

Engineer Hildebrand recently passed the rigorous engineer testing process to officially become our newest apparatus engineer. Today, his crew had the honor of pinning on his new collar tabs to signify his new rank.

Thank you for your dedication, Engineer Hildebrand!

Today we celebrate the incredible career of Captain Tom Birkenfeld after 30 years of service to the Atascadero community. Captain Birkenfeld began as a reserve firefighter with Atascadero Fire in 1996 before being hired full-time in 2000. Over the years, he has made significant contributions to various programs including the North County Urban Search & Rescue Team, firefighter health & safety, fleet management and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) maintenance.

Captain Birkenfeld has been an exemplary member of the department and we will miss him greatly! Congratulations, Captain Birkenfeld on a well-earned retirement! We are grateful for your service!

Today, L3600 remembers the 343 brave men and women of the FDNY as well as the law enforcement and EMS personnel who gave their lives to save others. On this day 24 years ago, they rushed into the two towers of the World Trade Center and never made it home. We honor their bravery, courage and sacrifice and stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters across the nation. We will never forget.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers of those who were lost in yesterdays senseless act of violence against our fellow firefighters. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Idaho.

This week Weston finished out his last shift as our firefighter cadet! He devoted seven months as a cadet, working alongside firefighters in the station and on calls for service. Showing his gratitude, Weston made cutting boards for both fire stations. We appreciate his great attitude and willingness to always pitch in. Thank you, Weston! We know you will do great things in life!
