A little over 3 months in at Valor Grappling Club and it’s given me some time to reflect on the experience.
First and foremost, as daunting as the experience is, I’m grateful.
There’s gonna come a time where the gym grows to 100+ people, maybe even 200, but the people who are with me during these early times are people I will never forget. You guys are the foundation on which something really cool will emerge.
I know I can’t keep everyone, life will happen, people get pulled in different directions, new faces fill the spots of old, that’s the reality of opening a gym but I really appreciate those who are here during this phase of infancy. You guys are helping shape what this place becomes just as much as I am.
Being the owner and head instructor is a new role that I don’t take lightly. I’m learning in a lot of the same ways a brand new student is learning.
My goal has always been to provide an environment where people feel welcome, where people know your name, they’re invested in your growth, where you can push yourself, but also just show up, train, and enjoy the atmosphere of people doing difficult things.
We’re still just getting started.
Thank you to everyone who has been here the past few months. I’m excited to see where we take this.
