Healthy eating does NOT have to mean making everything from scratch 👏🏼

One of the biggest things I teach my clients is how to make eating well easier.

Because sure, you could meal prep chicken, wash and cut a bunch of vegetables, cook rice from scratch, portion everything into containers every Sunday… orrrr you could buy the rotisserie chicken, frozen veggies, and microwave rice😂 There’s no direct right or wrong - gotta find what works for you!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking shortcuts that help you eat more nutritious foods consistently.

Frozen veggies still count.
Pre-cooked protein still counts.
Microwave rice still counts.
Pre-cut fruit still counts.
A smoothie you threw together in 3 minutes still counts.

And if the “shortcut” is the difference between eating a balanced meal and ordering takeout because you’re exhausted after work… USE THE SHORTCUT.

So I’m starting a little Healthy Shortcuts Series sharing some of my favorite ways to make nutrition easier in real life 🙌🏼

First up: some of my go-to shortcuts for getting more protein without spending your entire Sunday meal prepping.

“I’d die for my kids”… I don’t know a parent who wouldn’t say that without hesitation🤷‍♀️

But would you take care of yourself so you can LIVE for them, too?

Would you spend the money on your health instead of always putting yourself last?

Would you make time to move your body, eat in a way that supports you, manage your stress, and build strength for the life you want to live?

Not because you need to look a certain way or become fitness-obsessed. But because taking care of yourself impacts so much more than you.

It impacts whether you have the energy to play on the floor with your kids and get back up.

Whether you can carry the groceries, luggage, or eventually your grandkids.

Whether you feel good enough to actually enjoy the vacations, hikes, dinners, date nights, and random Tuesday evenings that make up your life.

Maybe your “why” is your spouse. Your parents. Your siblings. Your friends. Your dog who expects those daily walks. 😆

Maybe it’s simply the 60, 70, or 80-year-old version of YOU who deserves the best shot you can give her at being strong, independent, capable, and still doing the things she loves.

We talk a lot about investing in our homes, careers, families, retirement accounts, vacations…

But your health is the thing you’re bringing with you through ALL of it.

It’s about doing what you can now to give yourself more life to live and more of YOU to share with the people you love💛

You don’t need to make health your entire life. But it does deserve a place in it.

If I just listen to my body & pay no mind to nutrition needs, I will always say YES to all the sweets😂🍩

While I’m a HUGE advocate for learning to listen to your body, it can be really hard to listen to your body’s needs when you don’t have the foundational nutrition knowledge to understand what it’s telling you.

That’s actually why most of my clients track food in some capacity for some period of time!

Not because I want them tracking every bite for the rest of their lives. Quite the opposite.

Tracking is a tool we can use to TEACH you how to eat without tracking.

During that process, you start learning:

🥚 What an adequate portion of protein actually looks like
🥦 How much fiber you’re getting and what keeps your digestion happy
🍚 What portions of carbs and fats work well for YOU
⚡ How different meals affect your energy
😋 What actually keeps you full for several hours vs. hungry again 45 minutes later
🍪 How to include foods you love without feeling like you “blew it”
👀 What appropriate portions look like without needing to measure them forever
🧠 How hunger, fullness, cravings, stress, sleep, workouts, and your eating patterns all interact

And while we’re learning the nutrition side, we’re ALSO practicing paying attention to your body.

Did that meal actually satisfy me?

How did my energy feel afterward?

Am I physically hungry right now, or do I just really want the donut?

Also, sometimes you just really want a donut and you eat the donut🤪

The goal isn’t to override your body with nutrition rules. But it’s also not to throw everything you know about nutrition out the window in the name of “listening to your body.”

The goal is eventually being able to combine BOTH🤗

You probably don’t need another diet, a longer list of foods you “can’t” eat, or more nutrition rules to follow🙃

Most of the time, the biggest difference comes from getting REALLY good at the basics and figuring out how to make those basics work consistently in your actual life.

Eating well can include restaurant meals. It can include dessert. It can include convenience foods, vacations, busy weeks, and days that don’t go according to plan. 👏🏼

The goal isn’t to eat perfectly. It’s to build a way of eating that supports your health + goals without feeling like you’re constantly “on” or “off” track.

The client messages on slide 5… THAT is the kind of progress I love to see🥹❤️

Sometimes it’s not about having more time or money… it’s about deciding where you want to prioritize what you already have👀

This isn’t your sign to never buy coffee, eat out, or watch TV (balance!! 🙌🏼) just a reminder that your health deserves a spot on the priority list, too❤️

Especially if you’re not happy with where you’re at right now, get honest with yourself. What needs to change? Where could you shift your time, money, or energy to better support the life you actually want to be living?

You don’t have to change everything, but you do have to be willing to change something.🤝

Remember when baked feta pasta had the internet in a CHOKEHOLD?! 🤣

Welllll we’re bringing her BACK.. with a few tweaks to make it a more balanced, protein-packed meal💪🏼

What you’ll need:
- 20-24oz cherry tomatoes
- Block of feta cheese
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1-2 TBSP minced garlic
- Salt + pepper to taste
- Italian seasoning
- 8oz Banza or other protein pasta
- 2 chicken breast, seasoned with Cavender’s Greek seasoning (the best!!)

How to make it:
1. Add tomatoes and feta to a baking dish, drizzle with olive oil + seasonings, and bake at 400 F until the tomatoes are roasted and feta is soft - about 35 minutes
2. While that bakes, cook your pasta and Greek-seasoned chicken. Save ~1/2 cup pasta water to add to the dish.
3. Mash/mix the roasted tomatoes + feta together until creamy
4. Add your pasta water, garlic, and cooked pasta and mix it all up
5. Top with chicken and ENJOY🤤

And of course, I love that it checks all of our boxes for a balanced meal:
✅ Protein - chicken + protein pasta
✅ Carbs - pasta
✅ Healthy fats - olive oil + feta
✅ Color/fiber - tomatoes + fiber in the pasta

Nutritious, delicious AND makes for great meal prep👏🏼

SAVE this one for your next meal prep!
