We couldn’t be more proud of Emma.

This summer, Emma earned the opportunity to represent USA Softball of Indiana at the 12U All-American Games in Oklahoma, competing alongside and against some of the best young softball players in the country.

She walked into an environment where she was challenged in every possible way—physically, mentally and competitively. She adjusted, listened, worked, competed, and earned her opportunities.

That’s exactly what we love to see.

At Phenom, our goal isn’t just to make young athletes stronger, and faster, we also teach them how to work when things get hard and how to keep showing up.

Emma is proof of what that process can look like.
We’re incredibly proud of you, Emma. Keep chasing it.

And to the girls out there who want to do the same:
Emma trains with us Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30–8:30 PM.

People are way too worried about being good at something before they start.
You don’t have to be strong before you start lifting.
You don’t have to be in shape before you start working out.
You don’t have to know what you’re doing before you walk through the door.
That’s what coaching is for.

I’ve watched people walk in who were nervous, out of shape, or convinced they weren’t “gym people.”
Then you give them a little time, a little encouragement, and a place where they feel comfortable learning.
And eventually they look around and realize…
“I can actually do this.”

People think the workout is what makes a gym.
It isn’t.
It’s what happens before class starts.
The conversations after class ends.
The high-five after someone gets their first pull-up.
The person who notices when you’ve had a rough day.
That’s the stuff that can’t be programmed on a whiteboard.
It’s built one relationship at a time.
And after all these years, I still think that’s the best part of this place.

One of the biggest lessons coaching has taught me has nothing to do with barbells.

People grow where they’re known.

I’ve watched members celebrate new jobs, weddings, babies, PRs, recover from injuries, and walk through some really difficult seasons of life.

The workout is what brings us together.
The relationships are what keep us coming back.
That’s one of the things I’m most proud of after 14 years.

One of the coolest parts of the last several weeks has been having an intern learning alongside us.

Seeing someone who genuinely wants to learn reminds me that coaching is about much more than writing workouts. It’s about building relationships, learning how to teach, and helping people become more confident.

He’s got a few weeks left before heading back, and it’s made me realize we’d love to keep investing in young people who want to learn.

If you’re a high school or college student who’s passionate about fitness, coaching, and serving people, we’d love to have a conversation.

Summer has a way of making life busy.

Vacations.
Ball tournaments.
Family trips.
Late nights.

But every morning at 5:30 and every evening until 8:30, people keep walking through these doors.

Not because it’s easy.
Because they’ve realized taking care of themselves is worth protecting.
