Open Source Jiu-Jitsu is a 100% unaffiliated gym, located about 7-10 minutes from downtown Asheville. We offer pay-what-you-want, pay-as-you-go fundamental Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in order to provide even more access to more people interested in "the gentle art".

Adding Funky Flow Jiu Jitsu to our list of favorite gyms!

Lakyn and Amber graciously hosted us for a visit to their gym in Florence , SC to help us prepare for Masters Worlds and show us what an amazing community they've built over the past couple years.

Many of you will recognize them from Camp Grappalachia, so you already know what kind of excellent instruction and technique they provide. But did you know they can also provide the cleanest bathrooms this side of the Mississippi?? That their gym smells like a spa? 😯 They're pretty much the whole package.

Big thanks to y'all and your students for being so welcoming and making us feel like part of the team! 🫶

Congrats to Coach Bobby on his IBJJF Virginia Open silver this weekend! Just barely caught a video of his 30-second ankle lock win (excuse the grainy quality!). 😅

As coaches, we encourage our students to compete and we think it's important for them to see us go through the same experiences they do. Black belt division, white belt division, masters or young'uns - we all feel the nerves, the excitement, the disappointment, the satisfaction of that nice big meal when it's over, and all the emotions in between.

Even for Bobby - after 20+ years of competing in jiu-jitsu - he still goes through all the same feelings! So if you've been thinking about competing but are nervous, you're in good company. We all are.
