For our western trail users: Dominion Energy contractors will be clearing vegetation around distribution poles from Leesburg to Ashburn for the next two weeks starting today. Short detours or stoppages may be required, so please be aware when in this area.

For our trail users in Falls Church: Beginning next Monday, August 24, and continuing to September 11, Fairfax County Water Authority will be installing a new water main near the intersection of Fowler St and Railroad Ave. Boring will occur near and under the trail, but there will be no detours or delays.

For trail users in Sterling, please be aware that from next Monday, August 10, through Weds, August 12, Dominion Energy contractors will be clearing vegetation around distribution poles on the east side of Sterling Blvd. Please watch for flaggers and follow their instructions.

For those of you who travel the trail near Vienna: Be alert for short detours to the gravel trail and brief stoppages of no more than 15 minutes, starting now and lasting into September, as Dominion Energy removes *inactive* poles between Caboose Brewery and Northside Park.

Sparrow Pond Restoration 06/24/2026

For trail users in Arlington: Mobilization for Sparrow Pond maintenance work will begin this week and next, starting with installing construction fencing to separate the access path from the W&OD trail. Please exercise caution when in this area!

Sparrow Pond Restoration The Sparrow Pond restoration has restored pond depths for water quality and wildlife habitat, including ducks, turtles, frogs, and songbirds. The redesign also allows for easier maintenance access and more resilience in heavy storms.
