But but but…… boxing is better than Jiu Jitsu…… hahahahahahaha

A recent BJJEE article reported that Ryan Garcia allegedly reconsidered the idea of transitioning to MMA after a grappling session ended with him being taken down and choked out. According to the article, Sean O’Malley actually praised Garcia for being honest about how humbling the experience was. (Bjj Eastern Europe)

And honestly, that’s the part I respect the most.

Everybody knows Ryan Garcia is an elite boxer.

The skills he has today didn’t come easily. They took years of training, sacrifice, repetition, and dedication.

So when someone at that level experiences grappling and realizes how much work it would take to become good at it, he understands exactly what that commitment means.

Could Ryan eventually become good at MMA?

I think so.

He’s still young, he’s already an elite athlete, and if he put the same dedication into wrestling and jiu jitsu that he put into boxing, I believe he could develop those skills.

But the bigger question is whether it would even make sense for him.

He’s already established in boxing, where the financial opportunities are enormous. Transitioning to MMA would mean spending years developing areas where he would essentially be starting over.

That’s what I respect about his reaction.

He didn’t try grappling and pretend it was easy.

He recognized that becoming good at another combat sport would require serious work, probably the same kind of commitment that made him successful in boxing in the first place.

Getting submitted by an experienced grappler doesn’t diminish Ryan Garcia as a fighter.

If anything, recognizing how much you still have to learn shows the mindset of someone who already understands what becoming elite actually requires.

What do you think? Could Ryan Garcia become successful in MMA if he fully committed to it?
