What issues are you seeing with your pitching? 🤔

One concept I consistently emphasize is the importance of releasing the ball with both the index and middle fingers simultaneously ➡️ a key contributor to what we call fastball force creation.

Why does this matter? 👀

Biomechanically, the middle finger is longer than the index finger for most individuals. If the ball leaves the middle finger last, it often becomes the dominant influence on spin axis and spin direction. This can lead to unintended outcomes:

🔥 Cutting the ball (side spin)
🔥 Pulling the ball inside
🔥 Inconsistent release points

The case for simultaneous release

When both fingers apply force together:

🔥 Spin axis stays truer (axis varies on arm angle)
🔥 Backspin increases, improving vertical break
🔥 Spin efficiency improves, often exceeding 90%
🔥 Reduced risk of unintentional cut or depth, which can kill ride ➡️ ball can leak over the plate

Pitchers who consistently get more swings and misses often do so with high-vertical break fastballs ➡️ driven by spin efficiency and axis stability. Both of those are heavily influenced by finger positioning and force application at release.

Applying it to your game:

Whether the fingers are close together or slightly spread apart, the key is alignment ➡️ ensuring equal pressure and timing through the release. I’ve included an images and videos that show what this finger alignment looks like.

This concept has flipped the switch for a lot of pitchers I work with ➡️ and the results speak for themselves.
