At Excellence In Fitness, every exercise has a purpose.
Sometimes that purpose isn’t to make a muscle stronger—it’s to prepare it for what’s coming next.
Before moving into a single-leg press, we’ll often spend time activating and lengthening the hamstrings.
Why?
Because hamstrings are one of the most commonly tight muscle groups, especially if you spend much of your day sitting.
Rather than rushing through the movement, we coach every repetition with intention.
Hold the contraction.
Slowly control the stretch.
Pause where you feel the greatest tension.
Breathe.
Then repeat.
By taking the time to properly prepare the muscles, we’re helping improve mobility, increase muscle activation, and create a stronger foundation for the exercises that follow.
It’s another example of why every session at EIF is actively coached.
We’re not just counting repetitions.
We’re watching your movement.
Adjusting your positioning.
Providing the right amount of assistance.
And helping you get the absolute most out of every exercise.
Because it’s not about moving faster.
It’s about moving better.
That’s how we help our clients build strength, improve mobility, and continue doing the things they love for years to come.

We help people increase strength, drop bodyfat, feel better, and enjoy an active life.
We help busy professionals over 40 instill consistent lifestyle habits which helps them efficiently and safely increase strength, drop body fat, improve conditioning, and enjoy the life they have worked so hard to earn. At Excellence In Fitness, we provide full-body workouts, education, and accountability. Our Body of Excellence™ Resistance Training Program assures you will reach your goals in rec
Preparing your body for a workout is just as important as the workout itself.
That’s why many sessions at Excellence In Fitness begin with intentional stretching and activation.
In this session, AJ is helping Laurie prepare for her workout by focusing on two key areas that are commonly tight—especially for adults who spend much of the day sitting.
The first exercise uses a cable with light resistance to gently stretch the hamstrings while holding the muscles in a lengthened position. This helps improve mobility and prepares the muscles for the work ahead.
The second is the Figure 4 stretch, which targets the glutes and piriformis—muscles that can become tight from prolonged sitting and may contribute to discomfort or restricted movement.
When your hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors move more freely, your body is better prepared to perform each exercise with proper positioning, stability, and control.
At EIF, every workout is carefully customized and curated.
Every session is actively coached by your trainer.
And every exercise—before, during, and after your workout—is selected with purpose.
If you spend most of your day at a desk or behind the wheel, take a few minutes to stretch your hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors before exercising.
Your body will thank you.
HamstringStretch HipMobility GluteStretch FitnessAfter40 AnnapolisFitness MillersvilleFitness MoveBetterFeelBette
The hyperextension bench is one of our favorite tools for strengthening the glutes and hamstrings.
But like every exercise at Excellence In Fitness, it’s not just about performing the movement—it’s about performing it correctly.
One of the most common mistakes people make is hyperextending at the top of the exercise.
While it may feel like you’re getting more range of motion, it often shifts the workload away from the glutes and places unnecessary stress on the lower back.
Instead, we coach our clients to move slowly and with control.
Maintain proper positioning.
Keep tension on the glutes throughout the entire movement.
And stop at the point where the glutes are fully contracted—not where your lower back begins to take over.
Once proper form is established, we can safely increase the challenge by adding resistance while maintaining a slow movement speed and maximizing time under tension.
The result is a more effective exercise that strengthens the muscles we’re trying to target while helping protect the lower back.
Every repetition is actively coached.
Every movement has a purpose.
Every workout is carefully customized and curated.
Because it’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing it better.

StrengthTraining FitnessAfter40 AnnapolisFitness MillersvilleFitness MoveBetterFeelBetter
Why do so many workouts at Excellence In Fitness begin with hip adduction and abduction?
Because a strong, stable foundation leads to better movement throughout your entire workout.
Your hips play a vital role in walking, climbing stairs, maintaining balance, and generating strength during everyday activities.
That’s why we don’t just ask clients to push the weight.
We coach every movement.
From engaging your core…
To maintaining proper positioning…
To controlling both the concentric and eccentric portions of every repetition…
Every detail matters.
By moving slowly and intentionally, we’re able to activate the muscles surrounding the hips while reinforcing stability, balance, and control.
Our trainers will often have clients pause at the point where they feel the weakest.
Why?
Because that’s where the body has the greatest opportunity to build strength and improve stability.
At EIF, every workout is carefully customized and curated.
Every session is actively coached by your trainer.
Every repetition has a purpose.
We believe that building strength starts with building a solid foundation.
Because when your hips are strong and stable, your body is better prepared for everything that follows—both in the gym and in everyday life.
Strong for life starts from the ground up.

Strong lats do more than help you in the gym.
They play an important role in how you move through everyday life.
A strong back helps support better posture, improves upper body stability, and makes daily activities like lifting, carrying, pulling, and reaching feel easier and more efficient.
At Excellence In Fitness, we don’t just train muscles—we train movement.
That’s why every workout is carefully customized and curated to your individual needs.
Every session is actively coached by your trainer.
Every repetition is performed with slow, controlled movement to maximize time under tension and ensure you’re getting the most out of every exercise.
Our goal isn’t simply to make you stronger.
It’s to help you move better, feel more confident, and continue doing the things you enjoy for years to come.
Because strength isn’t just measured by how much you can lift.
It’s measured by how well your body supports you every day.
Strong lats.
Better posture.
More confidence in everyday movement.
That’s what Strong for Life is all about.
BetterPosture FitnessAfter40 AnnapolisFitness MillersvilleFitness MoveBetterFeelBetter
At Excellence In Fitness, we use a neutral grip (palms facing each other) because it places most people in their strongest and most comfortable position to perform a pull-up. It’s easier on the shoulders, encourages proper mechanics, and builds real-world functional strength.
For many people, even one pull-up can feel impossible.
The good news? It doesn’t happen by simply trying over and over again.
It happens with a plan.
We begin with assisted pull-ups, selecting the right amount of assistance and the grip that best matches each client’s strength, mobility, and ability. Every repetition is actively coached with an emphasis on slow, controlled movement, proper positioning, and maintaining tension throughout the entire exercise.
As strength improves, we gradually reduce the assistance until clients are able to perform unassisted pull-ups with confidence.
That’s the difference a personalized training program can make.
Every exercise has a purpose.
Whether your goal is your first pull-up, building strength for everyday life, or simply staying healthy and active as you age, we’re here to help you make steady, measurable progress.
Strong for Life starts one repetition at a time.
