Five noteworthy community leaders formed a vision, which then turned into a study that was administrated to determine community needs and interests in a local YMCA. The determination of the community leaders, as well as a structured plan, created a Christian based organization that was established in June of 1999. We opened the doors to the Breeden YMCA on January 3, 2000 at 5:00 a.m. We were renamed the YMCA of Steuben County in October 2010.

Safety Around Water at Fox Lake!
Today, participants completed their swim lesson assessments, practiced water safety skills, and learned paddle board safety while building confidence in and around the water. It’s been an incredible week watching everyone grow safer and more confident.
We can’t believe tomorrow is already our last day! We’ll wrap up the week by learning about Indiana Boat Laws and Lake Etiquette. Special guest, Detective Todd Johnson from Steuben County Sheriff's Office is also joining us to answer questions and share valuable tips for staying safe on the water.
We’re looking forward to finishing the week strong and sending everyone home with the knowledge and skills to enjoy the water safely!

Another great day of Safety Around Water! ☀️
Today, participants focused on self-rescue skills, learning how to stay calm and get themselves to safety if they unexpectedly end up in the water. We also discussed environmental awareness and common vacation water hazards, helping kids recognize potential dangers before they become emergencies.

Tomorrow’s focus: Participants will complete a swim lesson assessment to help identify their current swimming skills, followed by paddle board safety, aqua Olympics

Another great day of Safety Around Water at Fox Lake!
Today we focused on Rescue & Recovery, teaching one of the most important water safety messages: Reach, Throw, Don’t Go.
Our participants practiced how to safely help someone in trouble by:
Reach with a noodle, paddle, or other object.
Throw a flotation device or rope. 🛟
🚫 Don’t Go into the water to attempt a rescue yourself. Even strong swimmers can become victims when trying to save someone without the proper training.
Tomorrow we’ll be focusing on Self Rescue, building confidence and practicing skills that help swimmers stay calm and get themselves to safety.
We can’t wait to see everyone back at the lake!
