This weekend the skies over Steuben County will be filled with colorful hot air balloons as Indiana's premier hot air balloon festival returns to Angola High School.

Nearly 30 competition balloons and five special shape balloons will delight young and old alike at Angola Balloons Aloft Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11. Flights are scheduled at approximately 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. both days, wind and weather permitting. There's also a 7 a.m. flight Sunday, July 12. The event concludes after the Sunday balloon launch. Admission and parking are free thanks to the generosity of sponsors. We're proud to be the Premier Sponsor of this 17th annual event!

The weekend is packed full of activities including a classic car show, nighttime balloon illuminations, food court, skydivers, the kids fun zone, free archery tag, music, an opportunity to meet Anna, Elsa, Bluey and Captain America plus paid helicopter rides, a community choir performing patriotic songs and more! Celebrate America's 250th birthday at this spectacular event.

It's a red, white and blue weekend in Steuben County! ❤️🤍💙

Celebrate the Fourth of July with patriotic music, parades and of course, fireworks.

The 50th Music Americana Friday, July 3 at the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts is a patriotic tribute to our city, county and country. Featuring local talent and a special tribute to veterans, this free community tradition begins at 7 p.m.

Fireworks will light up the skies over Angola, Hamilton, Crooked Lake and Lake James on Independence Day, as America celebrates 250 years.

Everyone loves a parade and Steuben County has two great ones! Angola's parade begins at 11 a.m. while Hamilton's follows at noon.

Tonight's the night! The Fort Wayne Philharmonic performs an inspiring outdoor concert at Pokagon State Park to celebrate our country through timeless music.

Gather on the Potawatomi Inn front lawn at 7:30 p.m. to hear patriotic favorites and popular classics. The performance includes the Star-Spangled Banner, Suite from Independence Day, Our National Union March, Armed Forces on Parade, Sing Out America and 10 other selections.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a salute to America! Gate admission is $7 per Indiana vehicle and $15 per out-of-state vehicle. The inclement weather site is the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts, 500 W. Maumee St., Angola.

Now this is a legacy worth toasting!

Join us in congratulating Satek Winery on their 25th anniversary as they celebrate Friday, June 26-Sunday, July 5. The winery, located at 6208 N. VanGuilder Rd., Fremont, has won more than 200 medals and accolades in various competitions through the years and was named the Indiana Winery of the Year in 2019 at the INDY International Wine Competition. Since Satek opened, they have produced nearly 2 million bottles of wine!

During both Saturdays of the celebration, Satek Winery will host musicians and food trucks between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. There are different daily specials, including 25% off designated wines and $1 off wine slushies. With each three-bottle purchase you'll receive a free 25th anniversary commemorative glass.

Get ready for an unforgettable summer filled with fun, food, music, family activities and community spirit! Here's a sample of the many exciting events coming up in Steuben County that you won't want to miss.

Tuesday, June 30: The Fort Wayne Philharmonic performs a free patriotic pops concert on the Potawatomi Inn front lawn overlooking Lake James.

Friday and Saturday, July 10-11: More than 30 hot air balloons will fill the skies at Angola Balloons Aloft, held at Angola High School.

Friday and Saturday, July 17-18: Fremont's Musicfest features a variety of musical entertainment on the downtown stage plus a parade, kids activities and great food.

Saturday, July 25: See more than 60 classic boats in the water at the annual Lake James Antique and Classic Boat Show near the Lake James/Jimmerson Lake bridge.

Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26: Orland celebrates its designation as the birthplace of Steuben County at the annual Vermont Settlement Festival.

Saturday, Aug. 1: Angola Summerfest in downtown Angola features food trucks, a kids corner, sidewalk sales and musical entertainment.

Saturday, Aug. 15: More than 30 local and regional artists will be on hand at the popular Satek Winery art show.

Stay cool in Steuben County by renting a boat, taking the kids to the free splash pads or spending the day at one of our public beaches.

The splash pad in Fremont, 305 W. Albion St., is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labor Day and is perfect for families with young children. The newly-opened Sheets Family Park's splash pad in Angola is open daily 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Labor Day.

The public beaches at Hamilton Lake, Pleasant Lake, Crooked Lake, Clear Lake and Pokagon State Park are open daily with no life guards on duty. Entrance to all the beaches is free, with the exception of Pokagon State Park. The gate admission is $7 per Indiana vehicle and $15 per out-of-state vehicle.

With 101 lakes, Steuben County is the perfect place to beat the heat!

This weekend our community is celebrating creativity in a big way with three art events across Angola.

Today between 5 and 6 p.m., meet the artists who created the eight new sculptures that will be unveiled in downtown Angola. Stroll through the updated Imagine Alley, visit the food trucks and shop our unique stores and boutiques. The sculptures are sponsored by community partners, including the Steuben County Tourism Bureau.

On Saturday, June 6, head to Commons Park for the Arts in the Park Festival. More than 25 vendors will be on site between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., selling everything from paintings to pottery. A full musical lineup takes the stage throughout the festival, which is sponsored by the Angola Performing Arts Academy and Angola Parks and Recreation.

Be sure to stop in the Angola Performing Arts Academy Gallery, 45 S. Public Square, for the new show featuring Crazy Chicken Lady Art by Michelle Strotman. The gallery is open Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m.; Saturdays 4 to 7 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 4 p.m. through July 12 for the show.

The community is invited to the grand opening celebration of Sheets Family Park Saturday, May 30. Located adjacent to the YMCA of Steuben County, Sheets Family Park is a collaboration with the YMCA, City of Angola Municipality and other community entities.

The inclusive park features a splash pad, pickleball courts, open green space and a picnic pavilion on just more than four acres. A membership to the YMCA is not required to utilize the park.
