Artist collaboration:
Caleb Kinnear photo & treatment.

First met Caleb as a young ripper in the USASA amateur snowboard contests. He quickly grabbed a spot on the team when the shop opened and he’s worked his way up the ranks of sponsored snowboarding. While traveling on snowboard trips, Caleb began honing in on photography & videography. He’s now dropping video parts while getting photos published he took of riders on those trips. He’s shooting for company content as well as putting out his own Zine.

It’s been so rad to watch Caleb grow through the years, with his snowboarding, skateboarding, and passion pursuits. We’re honored to have him work with us on this piece featuring a photo he took of the iconic abandoned Igloo gas station/hotel. If you’re Alaskan and have driven between fairbanks and anchorage then you’ll probably recognize this piece.

Artist: Eric Stewart

This one, “Stewart Brain Straw” came about through a suggestion from our man, Grant, that we check out this kid’s work that draws on skateboards. So I reached out and Eric was down. He knocked it out of the park with this banger. Glow in the dark seemed to really fit with the art work and really put a bow on this awesome piece.
Note 1: Eric is a high school sophomore. He’s got a long, bright future ahead of him in the art world.
Note 2: I ask for the original art so I can display it with the garment. I feel it gives people a real look at what it takes and helps connect them to the artist. When I asked for Eric’s art I never thought it would be done on a post card sized paper. He could have a second career drawing on rice pieces.

Funny note about how small this boarding world is: I was a grom at HCSC and skating the ramps one day. A couple guys came up to skate, a little older but it was more about their presence. You just feel it when a person is sick at skating, you can feel it before they set their board down. Well a couple dudes came to skate the ramps and I think they said they were from Grass Valley. This was around ‘92 or ‘93. I’ll never forget one of them introduced himself as “Toad”. I was from small town Alaska so I was a little confused by it but I nodded and smiled. The name stuck with me as a bookmark for some of the first experiences I ever had getting to see unreal skating in person. Road was nice, friendly, and super casual about absolutely destroying the ramps with great style. As years went by I would reference that session and the name Toad as the identifying factor for it. Years later Toad came into the shop as he was in Alaska to snowboard. Now we have the pleasure to have his brand on our walls.

Small sideways world out there and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.

Bringing a little of that hippy vibe back with the footbags. The guys in the shop starting having hack sessions and asked about getting some. Big shout to Mike @ Bomb Footbags out of Truckee for making us these beauties. They came out so clean!
