So what is *your* Main Thing? Did you do that, today?

My side hustle? I’m a personal trainer.

Here’s what I’ve learned starting something new (much) later in life, and well outside my comfort zone:

Some days you don’t want to do the work. It feels good when you do.

Progress is sequential - not simultaneous. You don’t get better at everything, or all at once. It feels good when you make even small steps.

Everyone has abilities - and challenges. Working with them is easier than fighting against them. It feels good to adapt and overcome.

Every day is a chance for a new PR. Not always a bigger lift or a faster time - sometimes the PR is simply doing something better than you did yesterday. It feels good to grow.

“Feeling good” isn’t the only goal.

But it feels good to feel good.

Mega Camp week is almost here!

I’ll be in San Antonio next week for a pretty full few days - Coaches Training, time with some of my favorite coaching clients, and a couple of opportunities to facilitate conversations with agents and leaders from across KW.

But I’m particularly excited about what happens *after* Mega Camp.

Events like this produce hundreds of ideas. The challenge has never been getting another idea. It’s deciding which ideas actually matter — and turning the right ones into action.

That’s what we’ll tackle on the MAPS National Recap Call on August 26: From Idea to ACTION!

If you’re at Mega Camp, come find me. I’d love to connect.

Had a call this week with a team leader trying to make her first key sales hire - someone who could eventually give her back time and help transition some of her client load.

She knew what she didn't want.

But when I asked her to describe the person she was looking for, it got vague fast. "Someone who cares about clients the way I do" isn't a job posting - it's a hope.

So we flipped it.

Instead of writing a job description, we built a recruiting message for her network: "I'm looking for someone who can deliver the same level of service my clients are used to - do you know anyone like that?"

Then we built screening questions around past behavior.

"What are you most proud of? Tell me about a time when a client needed something last-minute. Where did you develop that skill? What would feel like a win for you over the next two years?"

The shift wasn't in the candidate pool. It was in how she talked about what she was building - and who she invited into that conversation.

Has anyone else hired this way - through referrals instead of postings? What did you ask that helped you see fit early?

If you're working through a hiring decision like this, feel free to DM me - happy to think through your screening questions with you.

Leadership - and who you choose to lead - is the promotion nobody talks about.

I was recently speaking with a business owner to analyze where he was spending his time.

A pattern emerged.

Almost every difficult conversation...

Every interruption...

Every coaching session...

Involved the same handful of people.

Good people. People worth investing in.

But people who had become dependent on *him*.

Meanwhile, the people with the greatest potential to lead others were getting whatever time he had left over.

Then he said something that changed the rest of the conversation.

"I've been leading workers. I need to start leading leaders."

I've thought about that sentence a lot over the past few weeks.

I don't think it's just true in business.

I think it's true in life.

At every stage, there comes a point where what made us successful isn't what will take us where we want to go next.

Sometimes the next season doesn't require working harder.

It requires becoming a different kind of leader.

I've been asking myself one question ever since.

**Who currently receives the best of my leadership?**

Not just my time.

My best thinking.

My patience.

My encouragement.

My attention.

I'd be curious how you'd answer that question yourself?
