Next up - I guess it’s my turn 🙈
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Head Pro and Director of Racket Sports at Amarillo National Tennis Center. After almost a year in this role, I can honestly say how much I love being part of this place and this amazing community.
I grew up at several facilities in Amarillo where my dad was the head pro, but I spent the most time right here at ANTC from the day the facility opened. My parents and these courts played a huge role in shaping my love for tennis. That love took me from junior tennis in Texas to competing internationally, playing professionally, representing Norway in Fed Cup competition, and playing for TCU, Go Frogs! 💜 I have now been coaching for 15 years, not sure how that’s possible, but here we are.
While I’m proud of the experiences tennis has given me, what means the most to me now is the opportunity to give back to the game and to the community that has given me so much.
As Director, I’m excited to continue growing tennis, pickleball, and padel at ANTC and, most importantly, creating a place where players of all ages and abilities can learn, compete, have fun, and develop a lifelong love for the sport.
Coming full circle to help lead the place where my own journey grew so much, where my father started everything and built an incredible program, is something I don’t take for granted. I’m so thankful for this opportunity and incredibly excited about what the future holds for ANTC! ❤️🎾

Thank you all for a WONDERFUL summer!! We had record breaking numbers this summer with our camp/junior program attendance and we can’t wait to see our courts continue to be full as we get back to our after school programs!
See you all this week! 😍

Next up - Phil Slaton!
I have known Phil since the day he started coming to the tennis center, he became a shop employee for many years and then eventually began teaching lessons. My favorite memory of him is when he was working the shop and came over the intercom with “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by Charlie Daniel’s in his best announcer voice while a bunch of us were out on the courts playing. He nailed it! 🎶
I can’t say enough good things about Phil and what he brings to the Amarillo National Tennis Center. He has been teaching here for 20 years, and over that time, he has become a favorite of so many, and it’s easy to see why.
Phil has an incredible gift for coaching kids. He knows how to make tennis fun and keep them excited to come back, all while teaching the skills, fundamentals and confidence they need to improve their game. Watching him work with our junior players is one of my favorite things about having him on our team. During summer camps Phil is the first coach that every single kid wants to have! They may fight over him all week long…
Phil’s also a great pickleball player, he enjoys getting out and playing any chance he gets. No matter what court he steps onto, he brings a great attitude, enthusiasm and energy to the day!
We are incredibly thankful to have Phil as part of the ANTC team and for the countless players he has helped learn to love this game over the past two decades! ❤️🎾
A fun fact about Phil, in his own words:
“I’ve never taken a lesson. I’ve had tips on different grips, but for the most part, I’m self-taught!”
I’d say he’s done pretty well for himself! 😉 Phil
is still taking lessons for the fall season, if you’d like to get on his schedule please reach out! Thank you for all you do, Phil!

Next up — Kenna Dubose!
Kenna was born and raised in Tulia and has been part of the tennis community for many years. She had a great playing career herself, finishing the 1990 Texas year-end rankings #1 in doubles and #2 in singles. Kenna holds degrees in Physical Education and Education with a focus in School Counseling. She has coached middle school and high school tennis and is also a USTA and UIL-certified roving umpire. She currently serves as President of the Amarillo Area Tennis Association!
On the court Kenna works with all ages and levels, developing players and a true love for the game within them!
Kenna has built an incredible community of women at ANTC. Through her lessons, clinics, match days and tournaments, she has created an environment where women feel welcomed, connected and excited to keep improving. More and more women are joining this group every month! I’ve seen firsthand how much people love being around her, and that says so much about the coach and person she is.
This year Kenna has added running USTA Flex Leagues to her resume, it’s a great way to get out and play with flexibility on the day, time, and the facility you play your match at. It’s been another great addition to our tennis community!
I’m so grateful to have Kenna on our team at ANTC. Her experience, organization, energy and genuine love for people make her such a special part of our tennis family! 🎾❤️
If you’re looking for a coach who will help you improve and feel part of the community, get in touch with Kenna! She teaches all ages and levels, and if you’d like to get plugged into women’s groups, she’s your contact!
Thank you, Kenna for all you do!
