Make the call, Blue! Whether you’ve umpired with us before or have fresh interest in the fine art of setting a strike zone, Pioneer has a place for you! With compensation scaling up to $85/game, we’ll make any heat you get while unbiasedly calling it down the middle worth your while!

This Wednesday’s Umpire Training - 9/9, 6:30pm @ Franconia Rec Field #2 - is mandatory for all new umpires or any umps interested in taking their calls up to a new division. Today is the very last day to register for an incredible season of autumnal baseball with Pioneer. Registration closes at midnight, then we go to work assembling teams, coordinating with coaches, and prepping diamonds for all the fall fun to come. It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of one of our own at just 12 years old, Bradley Blake. Some kids leave a mark because of how they play the game. Others leave a mark for teammate they are. Bradley did both, filling his life with an incredible curiosity, imagination, and joy.

As a league, we grieve alongside his family and the friends he leaves behind. Many at Pioneer carry incredible memories of him, and will hold onto those stories, sharing them in the days ahead. Those memories matter, and they will help keep Bradley’s spirit alive within our baseball family.

Please keep Bradley’s family in your thoughts as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

Looking back on some incredible Cal Ripken / Babe Ruth Virginia State Tournaments played across the state by our five Pioneer All•Star teams, it’s hard not to BEAM with pride at each and every player, coach and team, but mostly the whole of the League that’s produced such incredible ballplayers pushing to incredible heights. Making it to the State Championship is a tall task; prior to 2026, only two Pioneer teams have ever managed to do so (with 2024 12yo wining the whole thing). This year, Pioneer fielded TWO MORE squads that managed the feat, taking the fight to the final game (8yo and 9yo). Though all of our teams may have fallen just a tad short against really talented competition, they each represented the greatness we’re growing here as a league and community with sportsmanship, grit, skill, and heart; putting the entire state on notice. Congrats to every one of our All•Stars on their 2026 runs. Keep showing up. Pioneer will be back.

Through 250 years of sacrifice, hard work, learning from mistakes, finding success through failure, collaboration, innovation and everything in between, our national aspirations and (good) eye toward a more-perfect, prosperous union for all has only continued. That out of it all was birthed this little game we love, baseball, a place to play, grow and succeed alongside folks of all walks and abilities, enjoying alongside those teammates the freedom, growth and joy it brings, just kinda makes sense. The highest promise of our nation lives and thrives in the dugouts and the souls of each of us as we play, live and grow more perfect together.

Happy 250, America! Today we celebrate everyone that’s played a position in your great story and through it all, delivered a freedom, not just to have and play this game, but to enjoy the countless gifts this country brings to our lives. ⚾️🇺🇸

(And please, if your celebrations today bring you to the ballfield… drink plenty of water.)
