I love this so much! Often, when clients tell me they "can't" meditate, it comes back to just the feeling portrayed here: SO much going on when I settle down! "My mind won't stop!" Of course it won't! And that's not the point. It's to befriend it, in all its wackiness, to realize you're not your mind: you're bigger than that. Like a galaxy is bigger than a solar system. And that means you can settle *even when* it chases its tail.

Yoga posture practice helps us settle into a rhythm in which breath, body, and mind are together, sometimes even in synchrony. From here, all is possible. Come find out at yoga - today at 11, and most days of the week: BadlandsYoga.com/Schedule

Let go of effort and let gravity do the work 😮‍💨
Yin Yoga Practice In-Person with Earthing and Livestream

Wednesdays in July, 6:45- 8 pm in Cedar Crest, sunset over the Sandias
Registration Required: badlandsyoga.com/schedule

This practice changes habitual movement patterns and relieves stress by surrendering to the body's weight to gravity, rather than fighting it. Postures are held for 2 to 5 minutes with quiet, steady breathing — a full class moves through around 10 postures, closing in Savasana and meditation.

The science: Earthing — direct skin contact with the earth's surface — measurably changes body chemistry. Research shows it lowers inflammatory markers, increases ATP production, reduces reactive oxygen species (free radicals), and speeds recovery from infection by roughly 4x in study subjects. It also has documented stress-reduction effects. (search "earthing" in pubmed for body of research)

What this class actually does: Sustained asana changes the fascia. Instead of working muscle, passive surrender of the posture loads connective tissue that doesn't respond quickly or to quick movement. Remaining for 2 to 5 minutes in a posture, with a compassionate intention and support, is also long enough to shift the nervous system out of sympathetic (fight-or-flight) activation and into parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) dominance, which is why this style of practice can loosen movement patterns that a more active class doesn't reach.

Who it's for: Anyone whose body or mind runs on habit: people who want to release movement patterns and holding they no longer need.

For Livestream: Your link arrives 45 minutes before class. Prop and camera setup tips are in your confirmation email.

For In-person: Class is outdoors in Cedar Crest, among our piñon-juniper forest. Specific location is in your confirmation email. (Cedar Crest is where Triangle Grocery is, for distance and time reference.)

Grounded and Gentle: Earthing + Joint Freeing Yoga In-person with livestream option
Mondays 6 pm - 7:15pm Registration required: badlandsyoga.com/schedule.

Gentle yoga to help you feel vital, spacious, and free! Based on the Joint Freeing Series, start with simple breathing awareness and single-joint movements, building up to gentle full-body poses. We'll build capacity, depth, and steadiness in breathing. Always rounded out by Savasanahhh!

The science: Earthing — direct contact with the earth's surface — measurably changes body chemistry. Research shows it lowers inflammatory markers, increases ATP production, reduces reactive oxygen species (free radicals), and speeds recovery from infection by roughly 4x in study subjects. It also has documented stress-reduction effects. (Search "earthing" on PubMed for the full body of research.)

In an in-person class, you're in near-direct contact with soil on your mat for the full session. Bring your own mat; a natural-fiber mat or rug is worth the investment if earthing becomes part of your regular practice.

This class is built on the Joint Freeing Series: a sequence that moves each joint through its full range of motion before asking anything more demanding of the body. That order matters. Mobilizing a joint before loading it improves synovial fluid distribution and circulation around the joint, which is why this approach shows up in physical therapy and mobility rehab, not just yoga studios.

Class starts with simple breathing awareness, moves through single-joint movements, and builds from there into gentle full-body poses. Alongside the movement, we work on breath capacity, depth, and steadiness — the same regulation skills used in the rest of the practice lineup, just at a slower pace. Every class closes with a full Savasana.

Location: Address provided upon registration. General area: Cedar Crest, NM, near Rte 14, about halfway between Triangle Grocery and Vista Grande Community Center.
