Yum!
New Mexico’s 2026 chile roasting season is officially underway after Chile Traditions in Albuquerque received its first shipment of fresh green chile on Saturday. Owner Ken Dewees had the first batch in the roaster within minutes of its arrival, marking the first publicly reported roast of the season.
For many New Mexicans, the smell of roasting green chile is the true sign that fall is around the corner. While early-season chile is now making its way to markets, availability will continue to increase over the coming weeks, with peak Hatch green chile season typically arriving in August.
In 2023, the smell of roasting green chile was officially designated as New Mexico’s State Aroma, celebrating one of the state’s most recognizable traditions.

🎊⚾👏
New Mexico baseball continues to make its mark on the 2026 MLB Draft.
Artesia High School right-handed pitcher Jack Byers was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 17th round with the 515th overall pick on Monday.
Byers established himself as one of the top high school pitching prospects in New Mexico and now has the opportunity to begin his professional career with the Tigers organization. He is also committed to the University of Arizona, where he could choose to continue his baseball career if he doesn’t sign.
His selection adds another New Mexico name to this year’s MLB Draft, continuing a strong showing for baseball talent from across the state.
