So… I’ve been working on something new behind the scenes. ❤️

Most of you already know how much of my life has been spent in early childhood education. After all these years of teaching, working with families, and watching children get ready for that BIG jump to kindergarten, I’ve decided to start turning some of what I know and use every day into practical resources for parents and teachers.

And I finally finished the first one! 🎉

Is My Child Ready for Kindergarten? is a FREE guide for parents with 10 skills to practice before the first day.

And here’s the thing—I didn’t make a guide telling you your child needs to read, write sentences, or do kindergarten before they ever get there.

We’re talking about the things that make a HUGE difference once they’re actually in a classroom:

❤️ following 2–3 step directions
❤️ using the bathroom and washing hands independently
❤️ opening lunch and snack containers
❤️ keeping up with their belongings
❤️ asking for help and communicating what they need
❤️ waiting, taking turns, cleaning up, participating in a group…and more.

Each skill has simple baby steps and things you can practice during normal everyday life. No worksheets. No pressure.

Because kindergarten readiness is about so much more than knowing letters and numbers.

This is the first of what I hope will be a whole lot more practical early-childhood resources for both families and teachers. And I am ridiculously happy to finally have this one finished and out of Canva. 😂

We are especially looking for a Preschool & Mom’s Morning Out Teacher Assistant to join our team!

This person would work alongside our teachers caring for and engaging with our preschoolers, infants and toddlers—helping with activities, play, routines, diapering/toileting, snacks, cleaning, transitions and active supervision.

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, hands-on, energetic, patient and willing to jump in wherever needed.

✨ Must be 21+
✨ Childcare experience is preferred, but reliability, maturity and willingness to learn matter just as much!

We may be looking for TWO different kinds of team members:

⭐ A Consistent Team Member
Someone looking for regular weekly hours who wants to become a dependable, consistent part of our team.

⭐ A Flexible/Floater Team Member
Someone with a more flexible schedule who can help cover staff vacations, appointments, callouts, extra-busy days, and other staffing needs.

Depending on availability and the right fit, positions may offer part-time up to full-time hours.

Who are we looking for?

We would love to meet someone who is:

✨ 21+ years old
✨ Dependable and punctual
✨ Patient, positive, energetic, and kind
✨ Comfortable with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children
✨ Willing to play, teach, clean, help with routines, and stay actively involved with the children
✨ Able to take direction and take initiative without needing to be reminded of every task
✨ Comfortable working as part of a team and independently when needed
✨ Flexible and willing to jump in where the team needs help

Experience working with children is preferred, but the right attitude, maturity, reliability, and willingness to learn are incredibly important to us.

Beginning Monday, Uwharrie Play Oasis will become a shoes-on facility for all children 12 months and older who attend regularly during the week, drop-in, stay and play, and Parent’s Night Out.

Children 12 months and older will be required to arrive in and keep on secure, closed-toe shoes while in our care. Children under 12 months are exempt from this requirement.

We are making this change for two important safety reasons:

🚨 Emergency Evacuation: In the event that we ever need to evacuate the building quickly, our first priority must be getting every child safely out of the facility. With approximately 20 children in care at times, it would not be possible for staff to stop and put shoes on each child before evacuating, nor could we safely carry every child once outside.

🦶 Everyday Foot Safety: Shoes also help protect little feet during normal play. Children are active throughout the day, and closed-toe shoes provide protection from stubbed toes, dropped toys, trips, and other minor injuries.

Starting Monday, closed-toe shoes will be required and must remain on throughout the day for children 12 months and older. Please do not send children in flip-flops, slides, open-toe sandals, or other shoes that leave the toes exposed.

We know this is a change from our previous shoes-off routine, and we appreciate everyone helping us make this transition. As our programs and the amount of time some children spend with us have grown, we want our safety procedures to grow with them.
